odds are that your real problem is simply that your lihts are aimed too low, mine were useless too until I re-aimed them, now they are fine.

Right now my next project is to replace the adjusters, as I mentioned. For some reason my low beams are very good for what they are meant for, perhaps I just lucked out as far as quality of bulb (mine are Depo lights), even though people usually complain about them. Once I have the high beams properly aligned, I will find some dark road to drive down and start evaluating how they behave.

I have no interest whatsoever in the blue/white lights. I find that they hinder you more than help and this is why: Due to the colour of white that comes off of them they have a habit of irradicating the darker areas, thereby flattening the whole image of what you are looking at, do you follow? For instance ~ you are looking at a tree in the darkness. When the blue/white light is shining upon it the dark gaps between the branches tend to disappear so what you are left with is is a speckley whitish green view and a lot of the detail is now not available. Now imagine driving in a snowy environment.

When you use the yellow/white incandescent style bulbs you see more detail and it does not obliterate the darker aspects of what you are looking at, i.e.; looking at the same tree you still see the dark gaps between the branches, thereby defining the tree better and when you are in the snowy environment you are more able to see the different moguls and dips which might just make the difference a happy trip or a bad experience.

I understand that there are yellow/white HID's available that use 35 watts, but behave like 110 watt bulbs and go for around $240 a pair. I will be looking into this more but not before I have established what I actually need. If I do get the HID's it will only be for the high beams.

New to the electrical game ( as I'm to every other game with the deli) where would one buy new connectors?

I took after Gumdrop with tools this afternoon to replace a burned-out low beam bulb. Installed last spring, burned out Monday on the way back from Portland. A PIAA bulb, so you can imagine how happy I am with that. The replacement was some model of Sylvania bulb they had at Canadian Tire (who have lots of car-related connectors and wire and stuff, BTW, Patty). Let's see how long this one lasts.

I'm planning something a little more involved for the spring. Two motivations: the low-beam reflector is shot on the driver's side, with all the mirror stuff peeling off inside. Also, I'd like to come up with a way to have DRLs that are separate from the low- and high-beam headlights.

HIDs would certainly help me see where I'm going, but I keep reading about how illegal HID conversions are...

After reading this thread, being bored waiting for painted bambi bars to dry I decided to swap out the H3-55 headlight bulbs ($6.99) for a set of Sylvania H3 ST ($26.99). They are definately brighter parked up against the garage as I compared one side with new with the other side old. Will see how they look driving and how long they last and report.

(Paint is dry - bambi back bumper bar looks alright texturewise using that EZ-Liner - exactly what I was looking for Falco - now the testing is done, i'll start rippin out the front)

The easiest way is to turn your running lights on when ever you drive. They are the running lights and if it is daytime then you have daytime running lights Next time you get the headlamps out, Laura, if you look at the high beam area there ought to be another hole leading into the parabolic chamber (I love that word) this I am told by DeliCat (who was speculating with me) is for some kind of low light system that runs with the engine. My argument with that is if it was ~ then why hasn't any importer used it..... or have they.

Oh joy the mythical DRL... The light that you are talking about is the 5W European city driving light something... and is supposedly not bright enough to pass inspection. Then again that obviously depends on who is doing the inpection.

has any on actually got pulled over for having a light out, during the day? im pretty sure in PG there pretty lenient about it seeing that every second car has one head light( and cops r rarely seen)is it actually worth the money?

So I'm taking off all the burnt connectors and trying to crimp new once on, but I can quite get them to stick. Special on the high beam grounding wire. Would a be stupid to just solder it on?
This crimping is Bull sh*t

are you using th BS crimping tool that comes in the case with a bunch of crimps.. if so just throw away the tool and get a good klein one.

But solder will work just fine.

Are you replacing the bulbs in the E13 heatlight pod , or the Depo E4 ? I was at the Tomohawk on Saturday and one of the members did the same PIAA exchange in the stock SOUEAST pod and wasnt too impressed spending a brown on bulbs that didnt really accomplish much.
