the amber light button raises the parking pole, the "i" button turns its little green light on and off.

Doug was right, I am definitely giddy today! :-D

correction, in case someone else might do a search on parking poles... that "i" button doesn't seem to do anything. The light on the pole comes on when the van's lights are on or the green light is always on but it's so faint during the day that I can't tell.
The amber light button looks like it originally was for windshield washers, but I think they took a button from another van and installed it to power the parking pole.

The last "I" in MITSUBISHI is missing on my front bumper, the letters look like they are made of thin metal, maybe tin? I have a friend who is a welder and makes all kinds of things out of metal including jewelry and knives, maybe he can help with that. (I already was thinking of asking him if can do ladders...)

Those side steps should go out more it seems to me but I don't think they can be extended outward.

Goo gone spray + yellow/green dish scrubbing pads are useful... cleaner for black plastic trim doesn't do much though; the parts which were faded look good for about 2 minutes, then as they dry they go back to their previous state. I don't know if using a black trim "restorer" actually works for more than just a few weeks. For the shiny metal parts of the bush bar... there are plenty of YouTube Chrome videos but they contradict each other: aluminium foil + diet Coke, 0000 iron wool, Mothers chrome restorer, other things. I am not even sure that it is actually chrome, it looks more like stainless steel to me.

There are a couple of little wires sticking out from under the driver's seat, not sure what they are for.
I removed some Velcro that had been glued to the base of the driver's seat chair, between the chair and the hand brake. That had been for seat covers maybe?

I haven't looked for the CD changer much yet, plan to do that later today. My 8 year old however discovered that he has more control over the radio from the rear than I do from the driver's seat. That was entertaining.

There is a clip glued to the side of the centre console, under the instrument panel. I am wondering now what the previous owners had installed in this van but was yanked out when they sold it.

Thinking I may need scaffolding to clean the roof of the van... :o

You could always get the stilts that the drywallers use. More portable. 8-)

Took the van to Canadian Tire today for rustproofing with Corrosion Free 3000 and for a Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI).
At one point the mechanics had all stopped working and were just staring at my van.
I noticed they lifted it, but didn't go very high because the roof is so high. :-)

They informed me that the horn doesn't work (never occurred to me to try it beforehand) and they didn't like the LEDs as daytime running lights.

The first I can understand; the second... I am wondering if it's because they haven't seen this before, maybe I should go to a different location to pass the MVI. Maybe the NS law is worded differently than in other provinces? They did give me a phone number and the name of a shop nearby who maintain diesel vehicles and do the wiring for ambulances and police vehicles.

I bought a 12V tester, will test the horn circuit and the fuse tomorrow (if it stops raining!); as for the DRLs, will try to figure out the electrical diagram to see what needs to be done to keep those headlights on all the time. If I can't figure it out will take it to the police shop (I'll call them that for now).

The Nova Scotia provincial site claims DRLs lower accident rates by "3 to 10%"... I can think of better things they could do to help reduce accident rates than this (using salt on the roads during winter comes to mind, as well as fewer roundabouts, among other things)! And I seriously question the validity of those stats. But anyway. (ref. http://novascotia.ca/tran/roadsafety/daytimelights.asp )

One guy at CT told me he intends to import a Volvo C302 but he said they are hard to get a hold of; but that Volvo dealerships provide parts for them.

Oh and the alternator belt was screeching yesterday for a while, didn't know what was going on, but after tightening it a couple of times (1st try -- noise was less frequent, so 2nd time, tightened the belt some more) the sound disappeared. That's good. Gotta say I like this forum and the others in the UK and Australia.

I a pretty sure that the previous owner (Japanese?) mixed up two buttons, the button for the front wiper heater now powers the retractable parking pole, and the parking pole button doesn't appear to be doing anything but I suspect it is powering the wiper heaters (if anything).

There are a couple of wires sticking out from under the driver's seat, not sure what those were for.

The van burns a lot of diesel, I ordered blanking plates last night from the UK, hoping that might help. I put Stanadyne into the tank earlier this week but compared to my 2007 Odyssey the Delica burns a lot more fuel. Then again, my Odyssey got stuck in my driveway when there was only 4" of snow on the ground. With the Delica I think we're going to be safe. :-)
