Well my new Deli is in performance car in North Van. I was reading this thread and saw Falcos recommendation to use them. I drove down from Squamish, walked in had great service and information about the different units. Went with the fancy double din unit. Last time i bought a car stereo was 1994. So im kind of excited. The guys at the shop said they could put it in for me right then and there. Now thats service!!! I pick the deli up in a couple hours. Wow..... music on the way home to Squampton????? Life is good!

Any recommendations for Calgary or Lethbridge - especially somebody that can install in a few hours? I'll have someone install it as I can build a PC from scratch in less time than it takes to cook a decent meal but the underside of a dash scares the hell out of me for some reason.

I was in Walmart and saw some cheap decks but didn't buy anything. I'll wait until I can get to Calgary, etc. I'd like a sub, but I don't think there's room in a Pajero so I'll have to settle for decent speakers.

And yeah, last time I bought a custom car system, it was a top of the line Alpine cassette deck and a new artist called Tom Petty was crushing it in the charts. <heavy sigh>

need a new audio system

I have a low roof. My problem is not a kick a$$ stereo but that my rear speakers are usually covered by gear for work or fishing. Considering mounting some 5x7's near the rear roof corners. Have to fab some enclosures up.

crutchfield.ca is a great website for electronics. I had a single DIN face plate with 4'' alpine type S rounds in the front and Alpine Type R 6.5' component speakers in the rear. mounted the mains where the old ones were in the back and put the tweeters closer to the roof. ran a 10'' sub with a ported bandpass box and there was NO noise other than what was blasting through the speakers. If you are looking for small, compact Bass, look at the sound ordinance 8'' powered sub. small, compact, and powerful.

I get all of my stereo equipment from Sonic. My 15" subs were selling for $200 a piece at Canadian Tire (almost twice as much at Future Shop which was connected to the Can Tire  ) but only $39 from Sonic. The amp was $1000 at Can tire and only $100 from Sonic. The deck was $149 on Sonic and $450 at Can Tire.

Does the l 400 use the same wiring harness as the l 300?
Next question is what type of double din to single din adapter did they use
I went into visions and they said they vary from vehicle to vehicle

I dont think the wiring is the same, I bought a delica to standard loom adapter and it didnt fit mine, I ended up getting one that specified L300 delica, i assume the first was a 400 I bought in error. If memory serves, and this was years ago, L300 has 2 connectors and l400 has 1.

I meant that stereos are designed to cluster the most common controls nearest the driver, and this means volume, on/off, track selection are on the left...which puts them furthest from the driver in RHD...even further in a van...even worse if the buttons are minuscule and their function changes depending on which "mode" is indicated on the display I can't see because it's down by my knees.

I still have to lean over to adjust the volume on my new, Mazda stereo, but at least all the buttons are large and single-function, and always right where I left them.

You can see details of my installation here:
