The EGR is attached to the exhaust manifold pre-turbo, therefore it takes the temperature of the exhaust gases out of the cylinders. The L300 is more direct from the rear cylinder, the L400 appears to be less direct from one cylinder due to a difference of placement and manifold design.
So if it takes the reading from one of the cylinders, could this be an issue as nxski suggests? Or are the readings going to be close enough to what an egt post-turbo would be?

Completely your call, you can go the easy route and install the pyro in the EGR blanking plate or you can take the extra time to remove your turbo and exhaust manifold to drill and tap an install location more to your liking. One is quick and easy but may have a possibility of giving erroneous information on the total heat your engine is producing and the other is difficult and time consuming but will yield the most accurate information. Your choice, what do you want to do?

Unless you are using it in a racing application I think it is accurate enough (your not using the Delica in tractor pulls

)...As long as all injectors are in similar shape it is a reasonable reading...
sure you could drill and tap and run 4 gauges if you wanted...but it would be easier just to keep the EGRs down enough that a slightly hotter cylinder will not blow the motor...
