your fuel mileage is 100 % due to how heavy your right foot is..... Jesse and all the others will agree... ( also how the terain is and how much your hauling too but in ideal conditions.... keep the speed around 100-120 kph and you will be alright)

I thought SvR's mileage bit at 8.3/100 (28 USmpg) but after reading this I don't feel so bad.

Now, I do have a light-right foot and I am running street rubber at the moment.

I will soon (this week) be replacing the tires/tyres to something a little more aggressive so it will be interesting to compare the gas figures.

New the oil and filter, new fuel filter, seafoam treatment all this got me the best fuel economy on all wheel drive ,driving on snowy gravel road. 11.4L per 100 km

29" (I think) Geolandar tires, huge basket roof rack. Best I've ever had on straight highway was 12L/100km, worst was almost 15L/100km. Average 13.5L/100km. Pretty even city/highway mix driving around Toronto.

In 5 1/2 years and just under 100,000 km, I have averaged 12.75 L/100km; 22.2 m/UKgal; 18.5 m/USgal. The last 5 fillups has given me 13.1 L/100km, since it is winter and am running winter diesel. Most driving is in the city, with a weekly 200 km highway trip.

I have 23/5/75 tires, and the smallest roof rack I could find. <smirk>

Right now, with 31" tires, a roof basket and a lead foot I'm getting about 13.5L/100km. Without the roof rack, on 235's and driving with an equally heavy foot I got my best mileage of all, 8L/100km. Driving with a light foot seems to net me worse mileage for some reason!

I know this is an old thread, but was wondering whether A/T tires might have a major effect on fuel economy.

Hybrid cars have tires with barely any treads on them.

I always wondered whether winter tires impact fuel economy, if they do, I imagine A/T tires might be worse.

I wouldn't say major, not with the tires people usually run. I went from Geolandars to Duratracs without a major difference. Hybrid car tires are specifically designed to have low rolling resistance to maximize gas milage. Why get a 4x4 van if you're going to put slicks on it?

Winter tyres are usually a softer compound so in the summer I would expect them to hurt mpg just through extra rolling resistance.

I've never driven my L300 constantly hard, but I went from driving it 'normally', ie gunning it to get it going, braking for things then accelerating back to speed and then compared that mpg between full fillups on my normal commute just using enough throttle to get it slowly back up to speed, anticipating more to maintain momemntum and generally driving like a 90 year old. Made zero difference to the mpg, 24 (UK) for both with minor variations, both ways for each condition (experiment had more than 1 data set naturally) I also found the expensive new fandangled fuels made no difference, except to my wallet!

I had been curious about the same, but I've heard arguments both ways. Larger AT tires obviously have more rolling friction thus reducing fuel efficiency, but also that larger AT tires have more rolling momentum that would cancel this out...

Currently here are my fuel mileage stats since March 2014 (coldish weather, winter diesel) :

Highway: 12.1 L/100km
City: 12.74L/100km



Coming from small Toyota's this is brutal for me, my goal is to dig in an do some tuning to improve fuel mileage. I hear the occasional legend of 9-10L/100km occurring on these vehicles. If anyone has some recommendations on this they are more than welcome, I'm finding it hard to afford an $80 tank every couple of weeks!

Busik stats are suspiciously low: 9.5l/100km over last 1500 km or so.
