Good mechanic in Vancouver or Burnaby?
Hi,
Im about to buy a pajero jr, and want to take it to a mechanic.
I hear that CVI motors in Richmond is a great place, any other suggestions where to go?
I want to get the car checked out, before I buy it, as I am not familiar with Diesel cars, and not very mechanically sound anyways...
It has the same engine as the 1993 delica.. 2.5l
The timing belt will go to around 150 right? is there anything else that should be looked over?
the car im looking at has 120k
Thanks

Re: Good mechanic in Vancouver or Burnaby?
Are you sure its a Pajero Jr. and not a Short Wheel base Pajero?
Anyhow,as far as my understanding goes the folks at CVI are quite well regarded
in the Vancouver area and should be very capable of telling you the
condition and needs(present and future) of your prospective purchase.
I would be prepared to have to spend some loot if certain items don't
pass or are nebulous as to when they where last serviced.
If you are not sure about the belts, change them (all of them).
The engine cooling system needs to be up to snuff too.
there is more info on this site if you poke around.
This will give you an idea, don't be intimidated.
The guys at CVI will be looking for this stuff.

Re: Good mechanic in Vancouver or Burnaby?
CVI is a good place to start if you are in the lower mainland. There are other places ~ after all a diesel is a diesel. Many mechanics in BC are trained to work on certain vehicles but don't seem to understand basic diesel mechanics, so be careful. Sometimes you might take your RHD vehicle to a garage and when you show it to the mechanic he starts to tremble and shake, a little foaming at the mouth ~ this is called "Mânadreaptăconduceitis". If you witness the mechanic experiencing this condition ~ stay calm and back away slowly, smiling helps. The CVI phone number is: (604)-247 0500. Ask for Butch.
I would also suggest perusing Delica Canada Technical (in the forum index). Get to know your vehicle. These vehicles are simple and even a painter like me can figure them out. I drive diesels differently than gasoline vehicles.

ATEB in burnaby are the holy-grail of diesel JDM mechanics.
CVI in richmond are the delica-specialists.
Mardy / Amazing Auto in richmond specializes in Pajero/Delica's and is very concise with the work = amount paid for.
Abbotsford Japan Auto in abbotsford are JDM specialists however they command one of the highest prices and you have to be prepared to pay a higher bill unless you are clear about the work prior to being performed.
These four are the most commonly used service shops for delica's and pajero's.
There are many others in the lower mainland as well.

Yep.
If the words 'turbo' and 'diesel' are involved, they know it all.

Re: Good mechanic in Vancouver or Burnaby?
So i got it checked out, and they found a long list of problems... most of them minor, but the 4x4 didnt disengage out of 4x4.. he could tell me how much it would cost to fix cause he didnt do a specific check in it.. also the differesial got locked for a few second longen than normalk when switching...
moving on i guess.. but i def. would choose CVI over ATEB.. half price and they spoke better english.
thanks for the help.
Will i ever find a decent car???

Re: Good mechanic in Vancouver or Burnaby?
I have been getting my van serviced by Sabbir at http://www.maxoverdrive.ca for the last year and have been completely satisfied with my experience. The pricing is amazing and the service is very thorough. I can not recommend anyone else higher. Especially if you are looking for solid roof rack. I got one of the first of his new batch and it is SWWEEEEEEEET. photos to follow.
