From what I can see with a microscope it looks nice! ;-)

So tell us about your ride, any cool mods? neat features that the other Delicas are jealous of?

G'day.. Thanks Mr D :-) I am not sure what I am doing wrong with the photos. Normally to insert a photo I copy/paste from Photobucket , but they (on this site only) are either rejected because they are too big even though they are the size you managed to make it, or they are mini. Anyway I will sort that out.
My Delica has had all the things done that any series 1 Delica neds within the first few years of importing. I bought this on myself in Japan about 5 years ago. It had , as far as i could tell as "haircuts are common in Japan, 52000ks and was in excellent condition. It cost 498,000yen ($6200) and by the time I had is in my driveway it had cost a total of $14,200. At that time an identical model, but not a good (when an importer in Aust says "we hand pick our cars" what they mean is " we find the cheapest ones we can find that will scrub up nicely and make us the most $$$) was selling for around $26,000 so I saved 45% by importing. The diesel in Japan has a different sulfur content which wrecks the fuel pump seals so after a while when the 2.8 4m40 engine has sat over night , particularly when it is cold (below 10 deg) it sucks in air through the worn seals and although it may start ok it stops almost immediately and won't restart easily and then it may stop again 3-4 minutes later. This gradually gets worse and more frequent and then the fuel pump need to be overhauled with new seals etc. Cost around $1100 or so. Almost every single one develops this problem in the first couple of years of arrival. The other thing is the aircon compressors fail. New compressor costs around $1200. The only other thing they commonly need is the radiator resovoir plastic bottle dries and cracks so it is good to replace those $110.
Apart from those things I have wound the front up about 1" and done a common mod to the front guard to allow for 265/70 r15 tyres to fit. The rims are off a Pajero or Triton or Challenger. They are 7x15.
Because I do use it for 4x4ing I have a T0me Bash Plate. He is one of our members in WA (West Aust). You can not do any sandy track or rock hoping with out one as the normal tin ones bend and put one of their bolts through the bottom of the oil filter (See post call "Design fault with L400". I also have a bash plate ,which is kind of like a grid, over the rear aircon radiator near the side step. I have replaced the "roll over meter' with a boost gauge. I did this because I have increased the boost by a couple of pound. This is easily done by removing the 2 bolts that hold the actuator onto the turbo and then simply putting 2 washers between the actuator and the turbo then replacing the bolts. This movement of only the width of the washers increase boost from 12 to 14 lb. You can put in 4 washers but then may experience problemss at high revs when it changes gear.
Apart from that it is standard. It has done 150,000ks now and is a beautiful car to drive. Apart from when we go to Stradbroke or Fraser Islands, it only gets used once a week to take our rubbish to the local dump.
The coolest mod is the remote start. They use it in Japan to start the car from inside their houses on cold mornings. It has a remote on the key ring with a single button. It has an extendable aerial about 3" long. You can set the glow plug time on the main unit in the car. I use it in summer to cool the car down. I start it from wherever up to 100 meters away or in a car park or where ever and by the time i get to the car it is nice and cool It is completely safe as the car is still locked in park with steering locked so and if you managed to break in , get it out of park , unlock the steering and try to steal it, as soon as you let the hand brake off....the engine stops 8-) . Because it is a late model S1 it also has the standard feature of the remote central locking also WINDS the windows down 8-) . This is very cool. My children have lots of fun with these two remotes. When they can see someone near the car, they start the engine and then wind the windows down. They enjoy the confused looks on people faces. You can hear them say " did you see that....that car just started all by itself and then wound down it windows" :-D :-D It also has ABS brakes and driver air bag as well I fitted 50ml Bushranger flares which are rubber and flexible.
It also has a different stereo because the factory ones don't work well outside Japan. Cheers..

Thanks.. They are of snow with 4x4 tyre tracks through it. It has writing on the sticker "Mitsubishi Space Gear Super Select 4WD with Intercooler Turbo Specially Designed for all Outdoor Players" . :-D :-D Aren't the Japanese an interesting people. Who else would write that on their cars.. :-D The writing is in a rectangle about 300mlx70ml so it is not too bad. You can see it in the first big photo, it is just in front of the word Jasper in yellow on the side. That model is my favorite . The 97 Jasper is the only Delica made that has the silver on the bottom extending all they way around the front of the car. All other 2 tone Delicas the bottom color stops at the front guard and the bottom of the front is the same color as the top. Cheers.
