"some paint fade and minor rust on the roof"

Post by sashasmom »

This is the comment about 1990 Delica on the Japan Auto Direct website that I have been looking at. I don't know much about paint fade or rust - is this something to be overly concerned about? I'd really appreciate any input. Thank you.

i am curious as to why anyone would spend the money to bring over a unit with rust on it...Canada will take care of that quick enough...

The auction sheet on mine mentioned neither, however once I got it here I did notice a minor patch or rust on the roof, and the decals are quite faded (apart from the decals, how do you tell if white paint has faded?)

I would not recommend importing a vehicle with any rust on it, it's just more trouble than it's worth.

You may be right Crushers, particularly here on the "wet" coast!

Personally, I wouldn't get too upset with paint fade especially on the roof, very few delicas come through with perfectly intact paint on the roof, for the simple fact that very few people have the ability to clean up there... and most are not garaged. Japan has a very harsh climate, from extreme heat in summer to blizzards/snow in winter,

Rust is a definite no-no, try avoid at all cost.

the other thing people sometime loose sight of is the car is actually 15,16,17 years old, I put it this way theres not many 17 year olds that haven't had a few bangs and scrapes in there life, and overall if you were to compare these trucks with the average 15,16,17 year old domestic is in far worse condition.
