[Island Hopper]

Hello to all,

Hope you don't mind another newbie entering the Delica galaxy.

Let me introduce myself, my name is Ron and I live in the Victoria area. My first introduction to these great vehicles was back in 2000 on my first trip to Thailand. Every year I was going back to South East Asia traveling around and driving these vans around whenever I had the chance. Fast forward to last year April 2008 as I had just moved to Salt Spring Island from Ontario. I started seeing the Delica’s in BC and was amazed people were driving them here. I had never seen one before in Ontario only in South East Asia. Well after seeing so many RHD on the road, I knew I had to have a Delica but a lot of research was in order. After googling and reading many links on the Delica in BC, Google led me to this forum. The information and the sense of community I have been reading about was more than enough to convince me to buy one.

At first, I was set on buying the L300. In April, I went to Mardy’s L400 orientation day. I checked and test-drove both the 300 and 400 and was very impressed with the 400. I was very appreciative of the advice I got that day from Mardy, Jesse (jfarsang), Sabastian (sasquatch-hunter), Issac (de-Looka) and Laura (marsgal42). Special thanks also goes out to Paul (mararmeisto) for spending the time to show me the Moon Machine when you saw me looking at your van at the Shaw parking lot in late March or early April.

Anyways just to shorten this up I did buy the L400 Mardy was demoing that day. I’ve decided to call her The Nomad. I picked her from Mardy on Friday morning.

I went for an amazing drive today from Victoria to Port Renfrew, than the back road to Lake Cowichan and finally back to Victoria.

I plan on exploring Vancouver Island on weekend camping trips for the rest of the summer. I am also planning on going to Coombs Country Auto show-and-tell day in August when the day is finalized and looking forward to meeting other Delica owners.
