Possible Tranny Trouble - Shifting Issues

My TPS is turned to the max. It goes OK but the voltage is almost 1. Profister, how much is a new TPS?

At least you saved yourself a cool $4k in a tranny rebuild had you taken it to a shop that said 'that's the problem right there'.

Well, I got 2 days out of it. Driving 25km to and back from Edmonton and it is back to Ferret Fighting. I think this may be a sign I need a new TPS. Agreed? Going outside to try and see how much it has slipped in either direction because I know for a fact it was set to 0.79 two days ago.

Edit: OK now when I hook up the voltmeter I get a clicking noise at the blue/yellow wire and no reading. Starting to get a little frustrated.

Try cleaning the connector plugs and put a bit of dielectric grease on it. If that doesn't work then new TPS

Also try loosening the screw(s?) which allow you to rotate/adjust it, then give it a few back-and-forths for the full extent of its travel before re-measuring/adjusting the voltage and tightening it back up.

Sometimes dirt or other crud can accumulate inside electronic bits, and in the event it's hardly been moved in the past 15 years or so, a bit of a shakeup might just do the trick.

Worth a try before replacing....

I will give it a try, but I am not measuring even a reading and when I connect the red probe to the blue/yellow wire, the TPS just clicks. Will try this afternoon. I think it has been screwed for a while. I have had the crappy shifting issue for months. I think the adjustment was probably what pushed it over the edge.

OK well I couldn't wait until this afternoon. I still get nothing after trying the last two tips. Zero voltage on both wires. I guess I need a new TPS. Hopefully I can get one soon, because driving it while working normally was really kind of fun!

if its in this case.
check again if you do it right sometime we did hock up in the wrong wire and then there is no reading .
check again pls.
do it slow step by step pls

Hey Mardy - I have done it four times now since last night and still the same result. I never unhooked any wires or anything other than the 2 to the intercooler. I will check it one more time.

Sorry for the delay; I was away camping. I am not sure about the cost because that was a part of pre-sales service at Amazing Auto Imports and Mardy mentioned my name already. According to Google the part MD620874 price is bouncing at around $200.

1st generation Dodge trucks with the 12V Cummins have a problem TPS as well....The solution on the Dodges is to wire in a volume control on the dash. You can set the resistance and gives you nice on the fly adjustment of the shift points.

We did this on a friends Cummins and it works awesome...total cost is 12.00 and maybe a good solution.

Just an idea $12.00 is better then $200.00 and I cannot tell you how nice the adjustable shift points are towing, driving, hills etc..

I know this is way down thread but this information saved me as well. Was told I needed a transmission inspection and likely rebuild. Found this, moved my intercooler out of the way and then found the voltage on my TPS to be 0.62 V. Adjusted to 0.8 V and my problems disappeared for now. Thank you.
