Rear Door lock stuck... any ideas?

Hello,

92 Pajero 2.5.

Rear door lock stuck. For some reason it remains in locked position and will not open.

Tried spraying in there best I can and working it a bit but not go.

Any ideas appreciated.

Sorry, should have given more information.

When engaging the driver side lock the rear door lock moves, you can see and hear it but the mechanism doesn't seem to go over quite far enough, judging by the red < lock sticker on inside of door.

While turning with a key in rear door you can feel the lock moving back and forth but whatever the mechanism that moves over for the rear door handle to engage must not move over far enough. The rear handle just flops around and does nothing.

Problem is door is locked closed so I can'r remove the inner panel to clean the lock out. I live in a dusty area and figure its caked with fine sand in there.

Similar problem with my first delica , an l300. I put my shoulder into it and surprise it opened.

I had an issue with my Starwagon, turned out that the latch had loosened off and it required tightening of the screws that mount it to the frame. I periodically grease the tailgate mechanism and use 3 In 1 silicon in the tumblers. Regarding WD40, it's a cleaner and although it temporarily lubricates, it will dry out any lubricant in the mechanism. I used to use it on my chain when I was a cycle courier in London. It kept the chain clean from the debris off the road (which stopped the chain from derailing) but every weekend we had to regrease the sprocket and bottom bracket as a result because the WD40 was drying them out. It was a courier Sunday social over beer.

Most likely the handle is not quite releasing...

Go around to the back, and pull the handle up and down... you may have to pull it back down. At a certain point in its down travel, the handle will probably feel loose. The spring mechanism that lets the handle come back down after you press it up with your hand is probably gummed up, or buggered.

If the handle is the culprit, you may be able to jiggle the mechanism it is attached to enough to get it to release and then the rear door lock should open, allowing you to get into the problem. If you've haven't been in there before, you have to remove the rear door panel (after pulling inside handle and tool case) and then the weather shield, which uses that nasty black acoustic sealant stuff... I cut a hole instead in the shield, and taped it after.

Wish I had a gen2 in the garage, I'd grab you a pic, but alas, fresh out of gen2s, only a gen3 to play with for now.

Managed to get it open a couple days ago. Our area is pretty dusty and it can/does certainly get under the handle area.

Initially sprayed it with the newer WD40 penetrating/lub spray. (know not to use regular WD). After running out of that used some silicon spray. After running out of that used a bunch of spray chain oil. Let it sit in there a couple days or so then took it for a good run on a logging road. Seemed to work it lose just enough for the handle to start to catch. Once you can just feel it catch a tiny bit work the lock a little and it will go.

Spray it with oil like you're Saudi royal !
