door open light keeps coming on.. L300

Hey there folks,

I have a '93 L300 Super Exceed and the light on the dash keeps coming on indicating the sliding door is open when it's not. When the dash light comes on it actuates the rear overhead light to come on as well as the side step light.

It only seems to be happening when I'm excelerating, going over bumps, or on an incline... Now I'm mechanically declined but I'm guessing that the contact points inside the door jam aren't fully engaging at times and sending the signal that the door is open when it's not.

I've had my van for a little over a year now. Is this a known common problem for these vans?? I'm thinking cleaning the contact points might fix the problem? Maybe I could order a new part..??

It's sooo frikken cold here in Ontario right now, I can barely bring myself to do anything outside:(

I had the same problem a few years ago. I cleaned all the contact points.. took everything apart and checked all the wires. Couldn't find the problem. It ended up being the rear hatch.. I can't remember how I found that out but I 'fixed' it buy cutting those wires. It's one of those things that I've meant to go back and really fix but I haven't really missed the light.

Yeah, I guess it could also be the rear hatch causing the problem. I just assumed it was the sliding door as the lights were comin on it the side step well as well as the main overhead lights. I guess I'll check the rear hatch too.

It's been soooo cold here this winter and I've got no place to work on this thing that's indoors.

Yeah, you almost need a garage or something to troubleshoot that kind of stuff. What I did before I could get it into my garage was just throw a piece of electrical tape over the light. It will ease your mind if you don't have a super bright light glaring at you, but you'll never forget about it.

Tell you the truth, since I cut those wires I've pretty much forgot that I even had that light until this subject came up.

I don't mind the light coming on in the dash cluster, It's setting off the interior lights that bother me. I've turned these lights off for now. But it's hard to see stuff at night now...

And I'm sure the next thing to go will be my headlight/signal switch on the steering column. Its kind of hard to operate when it's brutally cold inside the van. And it feels like things are a little out of sorts inside the the shaft when I try and turn on the headlights. I'm sure I've read something about this being a problem on here....

Thank gawd there's only 6 months of winter left, lol
