Bull Bar removal

I would like to pull my bull bar so I can repaint my slightly-rusted bumper. Does anyone know how to get the centre plastic shroud off? I undid all the screws I could find but it still seemed attached somewhere and I couldn't pull it off. It seems like that shroud has to come off to reach all the nuts holding the bar on. I don't want to risk breaking that old plastic.

Keep looking, there are more screws. I had the same issue - I was ready to start just pulling. I can't remember now where the hard to find ones were but if I remember correctly, the key to it is the separate flat panel on top.

But if someone as mechanically un-inclined as me figured it out without help - I'm sure you can.

Thanks, that's awesome. Those bolts under the top cover are why the cowling wouldn't come off and I couldn't get the top cover off and was afraid of breaking something if I just heaved on it. Good to know I was doing the right thing, just not persistent enough. Still, I doubt mine will be as easy as shown, as stuff is really badly rusted, especially the mounting bolts. Might be doing a lot of drilling and tapping, but we'll see.

I've already done all the black trim and white and bull-bar stuff - quick and dirty clean up that pays big visual dividends, but more reluctant to go much further, other than rust spots on the bumper because that only gets worse the longer you leave it. I've had an idea of also doing the grey plastic that runs along the lower body as well, but I'm starting to think it's too much. If I put too much effort into making a truck pretty, next thing you know I don't want to use it as a truck, and get apoplectic when I scratch on a stump or my neighbor's Hyundia. As long as it has some ghetto I won't be afraid of getting it dirty. Gorgeous $70,000 4X4 pickups seem a contradiction in terms but there's so much of that out there.

When you get that lid off the shroud (cowling) you can get to the four top bolts. I've found it can be more convenient to remove the rest of the shroud after the bambie bars are off, as you can get around it easier to see what you're doing. For the bars themselves, I take the lower two bolts off first, then remove the upper four mounting bolts after. Another good reason to remove the shroud after the bambie bars is you can get better access to apply penetrating oil to the corroded screws. It's been a year or two since I took the MLB's bambies off, something I've been meaning to get around to ~ to give the shroud a good soak in vinyl dressing and a general cleaning, waxing of the bodywork underneath.

Rattlenbang, I spray painted it with Rockguard. I decided to do it all properly, so I can go play dirty with it without thinking of scratch. If it does scratch, I just spray some more on it and that's it!

I was actually thinking of having it all painted with something like the EZ liner or something similar. Cose after that, you can go anywhere and the only thing you have to be concern is to not being stuck!

What part did you paint with rocker guard? I like that stuff...pretty tough and easy to retouch.
