New Delica owner near Nelson

Post by cd_photo »

Hi All,

My wife and I just bought our first RHD vehicle and first Delica. It's a '94 L400 with just over 100,000 km on it. We got it from Mustang Imports just north of Vernon. Barry was a great guy to deal with and we're very happy with the vehicle. It will get us to all the hiking and camping spots we ever want to go to! Adjusting to the RHD has also been a breeze, aside from getting used to where everything is inside the vehicle. A bit concerned about the fuel consumption. We thought it would be better. But we haven't had a enough time to properly judge the mileage we're getting.

Good to be on board!

Welcome to Delica Canada, Colin :M

I look forward to pictures of your wagon.
Regarding the fuel consumption: I would recommend "Howes Diesel Treat" (what I use). It lubricates your injectors and with my experience I have noticed that the fuel economy is increased. When it comes down to it ~ one's right foot has much to do with it. A clean air filter element will also help with your cause. Ultimately ~ fuel and air mixture X driving habits equals mileage quality.

Another thing: I use an oil called Liqui-Moly, which makes a difference in fuel economy. In the two oil changes that I went without Liqui-Moly and went with Castro I found a substantial loss in my fuel economy, roughly a klik per litre difference.

I hope this helps you in your endeavours. I also recommend you to use either of the search engines on the site as there as a few threads dedicated to this topic that are worth reading.

Make yourself at home... smiles.

Falco.

P.S.: There are a few members with Delicas in and around Nelson ~ perhaps organise a mini-meet & greet in Nelson and compare notes?

Thanks for the welcome and the advice, Falco. I've since realized that the mileage is not as bad as we thought. It seems the tank is far from empty when it actually says empty. I am having an issue with the 4wd though. I can't get the van into 4 low. I get it into 4hlc, but the lever won't budge past that I have it in neuteal when trying. There's no line connecting 4hlc with 4llc on the shifter knob, so i'm actually wondering if it has 4 low at all. Do all Delicas have 4 low?

Thanks,

Colin

in addition to pushing the lever forward, you also need to press downward on the lever. Ie push forward to 4high now press down then forward (while in neutral) to get to 4low.

Took the van out on a logging road for a drive today and gave it a try. Just a tiny push down and in it went! Thanks for the help, everyone.
