L300 max tire size

Post by Pajero »

Hey I have some 16" wheels from my pajero i used to have and wanted to use them on my deli. I have heard that you can use 30 9.5 r15 on a stock l300 so could I use a set of 30 9.5 r16 tires with no issues?

Im thinking of a set of duratracs

Thanks

In most cases 30X9.5 tyres fit without issues (they're about the same diameter as the stock 215R15's). It's rumoured that some unusually square-edged tyres might rub a tiny bit at full lock, which sounds reasonable, but I've not seen it happen.

Just be aware that your front suspension might have settled a bit from stock height- but it's easy to wind it back up.

30 X 9.5 tyres are all 30" diameter by 9.5" wide, regardless of the rim size.

As for the rims- how wide are they? A 7" rim with the same offset should fit just fine, an 8" might touch the top ball joint. I'd test fit the rims before buying any tyres.

Note: wheels studs are 6x139.7 (ie 6x5.5") not 139.5 as on the diagram.

Anything above 30" diameter will need a suspension lift, and the rear part of the front wheel arch modifying- there's a seam just above the mudflap that will rub on a larger tyre, it should be cut off or hammered flat. You might also need to trim the skirt molding a little.
Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.

I have 16x8 with 0 offset. I put 255/70/16 on them, which is about 10.2" x 30" and I had quite a bit of rubbing. Had to cut some metal out of the wheel wells and reconfigure the brackets where the steps attach to. Wanted to keep original look, so not hack it up too much. Seems good now, but it was a pain.
