I'm sorry to start a new thread for what I AM SURE has been answered (or has a sticky posted about it)...I have looked online and read bits and pieces here and there but
I still get confused about the differences between, L300, L400, Star Wagon, Space Gear, Chamonix and other trims.
Is there one site, or post that lays it all out? I tried to poke around and nothing jumped out at me.
I understand that there's all sorts of customizable options and that a lot vans aren't exact replicas of each other as people can pick and chose higher end options on almost any car...
I'm just at a loss for deciding EXACTLY what I want...it helps to know what kind of options are out there.
For example...would a Crystal Lite roof, long wheel base, curtains, 4x4 gas be too obscure of a combo to find?
Any tips and direction pointed would be great.
Thanks!

L300 is body type for the Delica Starwagon, L400 is the body type for the Delica Space Gear.
Sub names like Exceed, Super Exceed, Jasper, Chamonix, Active World, Royal, GLX &c., are a reference to which sub-model i.e.; which carpets or upholstery, standard or Winter packages, features.

Re: All the different types of Delicas and options
I'm better with L300s, so I'll post about them, but the principles apply to L400s too:
First stop for general information is (of course) Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Delica
L300s, as you've noticed, come in a variety of lengths, heights, interior trims, and engine types. There's a handy model number decoder here: http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2119
For example, your desired model ("Crystal Lite roof, long wheel base, curtains, 4x4 gas") would be a P4(X)W (where X is any number except 5- 5 being the diesel engine).
This one's the fun link that puts it all together: http://www.partsbase.org/mitsubishi/del ... 1986-1999/
Every model produced is in there.
Looks like 4WD Long wheelbase Delicas only come with the diesel engine and manual gearbox in Van form- meaning no crystal lite/curtains for you. To get Long wheelbase and crystal lite you have to give up 4WD.

I believe it was Abraham Lincoln who said "Don't believe everything you read on the internet".
L300's come in 1 wheelbase. Engines are 2.5 diesel or 2.4 gas. Roof height (high/low) and sunroof configuration (0, 1, 2, Crystal light) vary. All crystal lights are high roof
L400's come in 2 wheelbases. Long wheelbase models _tend_ to be higher optioned, so I won't say that you CAN'T get a low roof long wheelbase, but it might be rare. Same roof deal as for l300s: low, with various sunroofs, and high with or without Crystal Light.
Engines are 2.4 gas, 2.8 diesel, and a 3.0 v6. Again, hard to say definitively, but I don't think you can find a LWB with the 2.4 gas.
The other major choice is 7 or 8 passenger. Basically, 2 bench seats in the back, or a row of captains chairs THEN a bench.
Check out jdmconnection.ca sign up for their auction browser, and you can see what is out there.

Excellent point about not believing everything you read on the internet
Wagon (people mover) versions had 2.0 or 2.4l gas or 2.5 Diesel (turbo and non-turbo) engines. Van (cargo) versions also came with 1.4 and 1.6l gas engines.
*Infallible, but also on the internet- see Abraham Lincoln's quote above
Not quite. Long body L300s have a wheelbase 100mm longer than short body vans. It's hard to see in pictures unless you're looking at the right things, but it's true.Feds wrote:L300's come in 1 wheelbase. Engines are 2.5 diesel or 2.4 gas.

I will. The infallible* oracle of all knowledge http://www.partsbase.org/mitsubishi/del ... 1994-2006/ suggests that long body L400s all had high roof. It also suggests that the only LWB L400s with the 2.4 gas engine were 2WD.Feds wrote:I won't say that you CAN'T get a low roof long wheelbase

Isn't Nootkase a LWB low roof?Growlerbearnz wrote:The infallible* oracle of all knowledge http://www.partsbase.org/mitsubishi/del ... 1994-2006/ suggests that long body L400s all had high roof.

Re: All the different types of Delicas and options
Nope, that's a high roof (without Crystal Lite). It's subtle unless you've got two next to each other. It's easiest to spot with white L400s as they have the black gutter trim:
Low roof SWB- the roof hardly rises above the black trim, back windows are shorter than middle windows, sliding door ends 1-2" before the wheel arch.
High roof SWB- the roof humps up above above the black trim.
High roof LWB- humped roof, back windows about as long as middle windows, sliding door ends 4-5" before the rear wheel arch. L300's have similar points of differentiation, but the high/low roof thing is easier to spot as they're squarer.
