Not sure if this is the right forum to make this observation..
So, last week it was time to switch over to winter tires. For the hell of it I put my Tacoma (245/75/16 I think) tires on the deli (225/70/15 maybe, should be close). The Taco's tires are almost 2inches bigger than the stock tires, and a fair bit wider. When I threw them on .. wow.. it looks really good on there but there's no way I can get away with this.. it'll have to rub like crazy!
Decided to drive around..
Hardly any rubbing issues! Only at a tight turn, almost to the turning stop, and even that was pretty intermittent.
So, I get going on the highway.. Now, on the old rubber I would turn 3200prm for an indicated 107kph (100kph on the gps) but now it's 3050 for 97 (100 gps). I know that seat of the pants tuning means nothing but the Deli seems happier and sportier and looks really great.
I knew that changing to a larger tire size would affect the speed and rpm, however it sure FEELS like it's sitting at a sweet spot in the ratios.. but my butt could be wrong.
No real point to any of this.. just bored at work and thought I'd pass on some info.

You must have a standard tranny. Very cool hope you took some pictures to share. I think you would experience more rubbing if you were in the mud or snow. Once you get a bit of build up it doesn't take much. Love to see some pics though!

Having a hell of a time getting a pic on here for some reason today.. sizing was wrong, etc..
Just to be clear, I don't really like the rims in that pic, rather i like how the bigger tires fill out the wheel wells.
Now that I've put a few 100 k's on this setup I have noticed that there is a small lack of oommpf going up the few hills we have here.
I realize that the trip meter/odometer will be out too which would affect the fuel mileage calculation.. so I found an app that can keep I running total miles driven via gps. So far it seems that for every 100km on the dash I actually did 105km. If my mileage is the same or better than the tires stay on, otherwise they'll be coming off.

Is my delica just strange? Everybody seems to have much lower speed vs RPM then I do... 3000rpm is 120kph for me with 235/75/15..

Have you double checked your speed with a gps? I know my speedo cable has been ready for replacement since I bought the van.TieMyShoe wrote:Is my delica just strange? Everybody seems to have much lower speed vs RPM then I do... 3000rpm is 120kph for me with 235/75/15..

Standard Transmissions are geared lower than the automatic models.
