Nicknames for Diesel Vehicles/ Delicas

Just thinking of some funny names people call Diesel vehicles and Delicas in General.... such as "oil burner", "brick", "bus".... etc

When L-300 first appeared in Vladivostok we called them "Dolphin" (may be because they were blue-white colour) L -400 is called "Bulka" (i.e. "loaf") "Pig", "Elefant".

With its cab-over design, "bus" is a natural fit for the L-300's, though the Brit's still call their 400's buses. And I often think of the motor as an "oil burner", esp. when I'm blending WVO into the tank! Are any of your little Kei's diesel?

L -400 is called "Bulka" (i.e. "loaf")

I would translate 'bulka' as 'a bun' (used for for hot dogs), the shape of it is closer to L400. L300 is definitely 'a brick'. With L400's coming to our community I prefer to refer to them as 'bricks' and 'buns' accordingly. Brief and simple.

Personally I am not that much into the "name" game... as in the end, they are still cars and technically are supposed to have no personality (although sometimes, I am not sure if my Van doesn't have a bit of a personality after all).

I once read that - according to a survey in the USA - there are surprisingly many people who call their cars cute little names and also buy (!!!) Christmas or Birthday gifts for their vehicles (although I guess they are buying them more for themselves... i.e. a new stereo, a racing-style tail-pipe, stick-on rally stripes etc....) but nevertheless - I found this survey quite amusing (unfortunately I can't remember where I read all this).

If I had to give the "Van" a name I would probably call it the "Lil' Stinker" as diesel fumes stink after all....

I just realized the other day that "Deli Ca" is derived from "Delivery Car"... I always thought it was some connection to "Delicate" or so.... I guess "Delivery Car" would also be a pretty straight forward name...

Generally: I call them "wagons"; "Starwagons"; "wagons with brick technology aerodynamics"; "Buses"; "my baby" ~ and of course the more Canadian traditional ~ "my truck".

In Particular: The "Miss Lil' Bitchi" (Misuko Musume). Although they are made from nuts & bolts, she is also an extension of me and I am more inclined to treat her as my "ship" rather than just an automobile.

I refer to mine as a bus since the name is hard to stop saying.
The VW vans were actually known as 'buses' not vans.

There's actually some debate on this one, the 2 origins that have the most credibility are "Delivery Car" and "Delicately Carry". Both have been backed up with quotes from mitsubishi themselves, so it's hard to say for sure which one is the true origin.

All "Kei Class" vehicles from Japan are 660cc.... 0.66L..... gas powered and approx 45hp. Some have supercharger or turbos though which adds 10+ hp.

so are there any kei sports cars (like the honda beat, suzuki cappucino, mazda az-1, etc) that a 6'2" person could drive without having to have body parts amputated?

Haha, no! Must be under 6 feet/200lbs for sports cars.

However, I am 6'3 and fit in most Mini Trucks/ Micro Vans ok.

well I can do the under 200lbs part... but I don't have a lot of control over the height part...
too bad... I really want a kei sports car... (no, not to replace the delica, more as a supplement to it)
