replacing curtains

I was thinking of using rare earth magnets, they should be plenty strong. as for the little ones pulling on them that is one reason I want to use magnets so the curtain comes down instead of riping or bending the hooks, also if using magnets especially strong ones with little kids please sew them into the curtains as kids swallowing magnets can = death hence the recall of some toys with small strong magnets a year or two ago.

Loki, That is a great idea ... to sew the magnets INTO the curtain. I had tried just draping them over the window but the magnets fell off, sadly. Thanks for the hint.

IHD, how is your velco idea going, can you detail your plan.

I need to make darker curtains to use in addition to the usual curtains, for summer camping.

The magnets I use for paperwork in the vehicle appear to be rare-earth magnets (we get them at work with network switches, they're strong enough to hold the switch to the side of a filing cabinet)

I have a stack of them magneted to the carpet above the sliding door, and everyone who sits in the back of the Delica eventually finds them and starts to play with them, amazingly enough, I think I've only lost 2 so far...

(as for swallowing them, I don't have any youngsters to play with them...)

Hi, try to find the right curtain hooks, but without any success. Does anyone know where I can buy a set of hooks in Vancouver to make my own curtains?

Also the idea with magnets sounds good, but where can I get such strong magnets?

i already bought the fabric, nice organic cotton on sale at green design on commercial drive in vancouver.

rare earth magnets are found at lee valley tools as well. i will get some there. size "a", i think.....

i envision sewing the magnets into the top and bottom of the curtains.... fantastic idea... i'm stoked....

thank goodness i did not go ahead with the velcro idea, it promised to be imperfect and full of adhesive issues. i have to write one final exam, then i can get on the curtain project and post photos.

I found the perfect hooks/sliders in Home Depot and made the curtains out of felt. Works perfect.

We already improved our curtains. Now we are using the bottom rail as well. This sliders works perfect upside down as well.

in my old van I tried metal rods on hooks, velcro, metal hooks but what worked best was snaps.one side was screwed into the interior and the other side applied to the fabric with the correct tool that comes with the snaps. I used to either leave a curtain up by one snap during the day or if I needed the vis to drive then pull them down and store them sandwiched between the seats or tucked in the side storage bins. I found the darkest fabric (besides velvet that shops reccommend) is upholstery fabric.

Has anyone actually found the oringinal Delica hooks around Vancouver? Someone said they used hooks from Home Depot...what model number?

I am having a hard time to keep the interior panelling from getting nicked and damaged. Has anyone found a simple way to protect their interior? protect the shaped carpeting?
I would like to have more and better clip-in points for bungies and rope, What have others done to bolt the the metal structure?
