Post by mrraulduke »

I took mine to best buy and future shop installers. They couldn't find the match up code to program a new one.

Ended up just buying a $100 remote starter set with free install. Came with a pair of fobs. Now the Chamonix can be started and unlocked remotely.

They said its cheaper to buy a new fob set than to find and reprogram an old JDM one.

Hope this helps

yeah,
that is what i thought i'd have to do. as it it the keys i had cut at home hardware didn't work in the doors, and had to be jiggled in the ignition. so off to a proper locksmith tomorrow to get it working properly! just thought it would be cool to find a matching key.

I'm seriously considering ordering one of these:

Failing that, maybe source a USDM control box and see if it plugs into the factory harness.

Any idea of how long of a range you can get on remote starting?

I would love to start the Deli on the Ski Hill before I get to it. Assuming the remote start handles winter conditions.

I can start mine from about 200m away with direct view and more like 50 without. One time I managed to accidentally do it from 3 blocks away while at work though (no idea how that happened since visibility was non-existant and it requires you hold the button for 5 seconds, release and then press again...my pocket has skills!)

For an alarm, power locks, imobilizer, remote start, turbo timer and install I paid $300.

I'd want all of the above, minus the alarm. Anyone know if you can get these kits and NOT have the alarm?

Yes, they can be had sans alarm.

What I would like to know is if it would be possible to wire in the circuit to a 4 ft CB antenna and amp for insane range...

Hey Jesse, can you let me know where specifically you had your keyless kit installed?

+1 on what's written above. My remote ended up in the dumpster, if I were to guess.

What remote start model did Jesse install? These units are not all compatable with the diesel's glow system. And +2 what shop did the install? A few places i went to in Calgary were hesitant to even quote a lump price...they wanted a per hour rate and said it could take up to 8 hrs to install......Didn't want to say goodbye to $1000.00 so I backed off.

I got mine done at Performance Car Stereo in North Vancouver. After six and an half years ~ the love is still there, one of the better choices I have made in my lifetime.

Falco.

P.S.: If you do go there, tell them Falco sent you. Not sure if they will give you a deal but they might give me a beer. Cheers!

Hey Big-bird,
It's a couple months later, any luck finding somewhere to get a remote start installed in Cowtown for a reasonable price?
I just finally got my l400 and am interested in the same thing.

Has anyone installed keyless entry themselves? I would like it to simplify locking the doors while camping
thanks!

I did the Canadian Tire remote start. It's a lot of wires, but was more tedious than difficult. A straight Keyless entry should be an easy weekend job.
