Vancouver BC to Zion National Park Utah

Post by Migshaw »

Planning a trip from Vancouver to Zion National Park. Most likely taking the 5 down through Portland on to the 84 through Boise (Idaho) to Salt Lake City and then down the 15 to Zion.

Looking for any recommended stops along the way? Parks, scenic areas, hot springs, cool camping areas or whatever else you may think is worth a stop or drive through.

Thanks club

Vista House and the Bridal Veil Falls on 84 just out of Portland are very scenic- and very touristy. Other than that, can't help, I've only ever been down 82 through Yakima to 84: not recommended, it's just flat dry plains with lots of bugs.
Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.

I have a book of hot springs in the north west at home, I'll take a look at it tonight and see what's along your route!

Here's some shots from my book titled "The hikers guide to hotsprings in the Pacific Northwest"

Most of the springs are just off the 84 on the way to Boise. The one we stopped at was called Snively hotsprings. If you do a search on Google maps it should show up. It's a beautiful drive in to it via farmland and eventually a series of canyons. The water was warm from the springs and cool from the river at the same time.

Have you been before? I went last spring and I can't wait to travel there again. We did a loop from Zion, to Brice, then through Grand Staircase, up to goblin state park finishing over at Arches.

How aventures are you guys? I have access to tons of canyoneering adventures down in that area, and tons of hikes! All with GPS tracks and topo maps.

Also in Feburary when we were there, we got told the water in the narrows was "very cold". It felt warmer then the ocean we swim in here! Definitely take a Wade up stream as far as you feel comfortable, it's Absolutely Stunning!
