Transmission Issue at 50khm to 80kmh

Post by runner5754 »

I just imported this week a 2002 Delica Space Gear with a possible transmission issue. When hitting around 50kmh and up to 80kmh (before highway speeds) the transmission will change down a gear then back up to next gear constantly. This is most apparent when keeping the acceleration constant and when going up hill. It will change gears then slip back down or vice versa every second. It never holds the right gear until I accelerate then it will pick the right gear and hold it.

This never happens at slow speed or highway speeds. Seems to be happening between 2nd and 3rd gear or 3rd and 4th (not sure which gears are being used at those speeds).

Ive tried A/T mode (hold) and turning overdrive off to see if that changes anything but neither seems to make a big difference.

Any help at all on what could be going on or where to look on here for possible solutions will be appreciated.

Van: 2002 Delica Space Gear. 84,000K. 3L engine.

Following
I had my tranny flushed and my TPS (Trottle Position Sensor) swapped out. Not sure if your Generation 2 L400 has that I think it to do with earlier models (mines a 94).
You have low kms too! ( I’m over 200,000)
You might wanna look those up and see
If it’s relevant to your van and issues.

Thanks! That helps a lot.

I’m not sure about the sensor being in this version of the van or not.

I will do the flush and see if that helps.

Hi there, wandering if you resolved this? I actually have the same issue on my '99 L400 gas.

Have a look at the throttle cable to the gearbox as well (known as the kickdown cable, though it isn't actually a kickdown function), if it is adjusted incorrectly that can cause wierd gear changes.
