Cold transmission = no shifting from 2nd to 3rd

Post by adventurguy »

My 96 Exceed will not shift from 2nd into 3rd when it's cold. The problem goes away after 30k or so of driving. The N indicator light is is partially lit during this no-shift phase and goes out at the same time as the tranny starts shift properly.I have done a full trannny service, thinking that the screen may have been plugged and the transmission temp. sensors (2) have been replaced. Frustration is high. Wondering if the Deli hive mind has any suggestions?

Have you checked your ATF levels? You may have had a service done but it is possible that drain bolt wasn't tightened properly or not enough ATF was put into your tranny, just a thought.
