ABS sensor service

Post by Glenn Delwood »

My ABS light came on intermittently after an off-road trip. Now it's on all the time. I'm wondering if I can try to clean it or check on the status of the connections. Does anyone know how to get to them?
Thanks

Hey I have the same. Mine never worked. However I was able to do some digging and keep it simple first. They are exposed and take a lot of damage. The sensors are easy to get at and just require removing two bolts. They are on the inside of the front wheel. Carefully remove them and clean the sensor off. That might be all you need. Or you can test them with a volt meter by jacking up the wheel you are checking, disconnecting the connector and putting your leads on each of the two wires. Then spin your tire manually. You should get it going quite fast and get an AC signal. This means at least it is sensing. The sensor sits just over a cogged band on the axle and as these cogs pass over the sensor they create an ac voltage which is read by the ABC ECU and it uses that to determine breaking. If the sensor is dirty it wont sense and will kick on your warning light. or if the sensor is bad or a poor connection is made the same will happen. Im tired so that explains my hard to follow wording so maybe just ignore all that gibberish and watch some of these videos.

Thanks LeeHammy,
I'll definitely check it out thoroughly. The videos are a good description of the system.
