Starter replaced > parking/dash lights will not shut off

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Starter replaced > parking/dash lights will not shut off

Post by after oil »

Hey gang,
My mechanic just swapped starters with one from my old rig because mine failed, on the ferry, far from home.
Now suddenly dash lights and parking lights will not shut off.
What gives?
Thanks,

Hi Ari - good to hear your still driving Delica's. I sounds like you may have a grounding problem. I would compare the solenoid connection for both starters. If you disconnect the wire to the starter solenoid do the lights shut off?

Yup, still doing my thing Larry. Running veg and road tripping to concerts. I’m in my third L300 and its been mostly reliable.
I’ll try that Friday. If the lights do shut off when i disconnect the wire, where do you think my ground problem is?

I'm not sure what it tells us! If the lights stay on when the wire has been removed it's not necessarily related to your starter. If the lights go off then it likely is related to your starter. Do you think the lights are as bright as they would be if you turned on the lights? Another dumb question is does the van have factory fog lights or @ least the wiring for them?

I'll try to think of other things you can try. It could be that you just need to shake the wiring over the batteries as that area may have been disturbed and any queer electrical problem seems to always be explained from a connection in that area.

Good luck!!

Glad you got the problem solved. A guy in town had the opposite problem - No tail lights. He took out the bulbs in his fog lights and turned them on when driving @ night. That was likely close to 10 years ago and I still remembered because it was so unusual.
