Low beam frequent burnout

Post by dreamer »

Hi everyone,
Anyone ever come across this problem? My low beams seem to last 3-5 months max, then burn out. It's been going on for over 3 years now until I realized it's not the norm :) Any suggestions/recommendations on how to remedy this? Much appreciated,
Ryan

Ryan,

The best upgrade I ever did for my old L300 was a bulb upgrade.

It just so happens that Lordco has a sale on their PIAA Extreme White bulbs, they made a HUGE difference in light output especially with the crappy projector low beams. They are 1/2 price and also have a one year replacement warranty. I know that doesn't solve your possible burnout problem but maybe the situation requires a higher quality bulb...?

Is this happening all year round, even in the cold of winter??

2 things come to mind...
Check the alternator voltage output, battery condition and voltage at the headlights. Assuming the headlights are wired as DRLs the are on all the time and susceptable to high voltage. DRL relay problems could be causing the problem but...

Secondly, although a problem to imagine in the cold of your northern winter..
I used 100 amp lo beams for a while on my L300. They fried from heat till I opened up air flow at the back of the headlights. There's something you can remove to help cool the bulbs if that is the problem. Have a look. Long shot cuz you're using 55 w bulbs but....

Try contacting Jay our local electrical expert.
Good luck
