L300 lockout solution/ security problem

Post by westbound nate »

I always need to know how to break into my own vehicles.

On my old delica i figured out i could jimmy the sunroof open enough to lasso the door lock with a shoe lace.

But my new Dilica doesn't have a sunroof. so i was stumped, until i was switching the licence plate on the back door, and noticed a little black rubber stopper… pulled it out, and had a nice view of the locking mechanism inside the door. a little fishing around with a screwdriver and *click* the door unlocks.

No need to call BCAA for a lockout, your could likely do this with a stick!

It's both reassuring and worrying that its that easy to "break in" to my delica.

I'm now off to get torx bolts to secure my plate, and ill hide a screw driver, with the appropriate bit somewhere on my van, so i can still access the hole and lock, but others can't easily.

anyone else have a solution for this secret backdoor?

If anyone thinks this might be bad info to put out on the web, we can take this post down. As anyone who knows this can break in to ANY Delica L300

I have a zap strap holding a key under my van. Its hard to see unless you know were to look. only thing I may need a knife to get it off. But that's a small problem compared to locking myself out of my van

Any suggestions on finding a blank to get a replacement key cut. Canadian Tire and others don't seem to stock the blank. I'd assume Mitsubishi has 'em but haven't yet asked.

Okay, there are lots of places to put your spare, and lots of ways to break in to your delica.
I found big city cantires have the right key. Small town ones get confused.
And I've occasionally lost my key, found the one caked in mud stuck under the van with magnets, lost it, got the one mailed to me from back home, and locked that one in the ignition.
That's not the point!
if I have a screw driver, I can open ANYONES back door!!! Anyone's!
I can steal your sleeping bags!!!
Forgive for thinking this is a big deal!?!
