More 4m40 oil leaks

So I've had my pajero for 5 years and never had any problems, then as soon as I hit 200,000kms all hell breaks loose and suddenly I have a blown turbo, a bad injection pump, the head cracked a little while ago, etc. Anyways that's all solved but now I have another huge oil leak in the front of the engine, the oil keeps oozing down the side of the block. Not sure how many of you had this issue or know where its coming from. I have supplied photos though I can't tell if its from the front of the headgasket or the front seals. I'll let you guys decide

Hi There;

Pull the top 1/2 of the timing cover and check. If the timing belts and pulleys are coated in oil, it is most likely the front seals. The timing belt cover should be able to come off without carefully having to remove too many pieces in the way...

Pajero is fixed! it was indeed the timing cover. I couldn't pull it off though because I would have to take the pushbar off, then the bumper, then the skid plates, and finally the radiator just to reach a tiny little leak coming from the very top corner of the timing cover. I ended up just using a temporary fix for now. Anyways the turbo isn't leaking, valve cover isn't leaking and it runs great

also because the engine was leaking from the timing cover while it was running, the fan blew all the oil onto the side of the block rather than on the hoses or belts

Oil from the timing cover usually means a leak in one of the forward facing parts of the engine which is generally the Cam Shafts or Main Crank Shaft seals. The timing belt assembly should not have any oil on it. I have had this problem, and it is usually best to fix at the same time as changing timing belts and water pump/thermostat.

You should be able to slip a small (either 10 mm or 12mm ) wrench into the bolt spaces to undo the top 1/2 of the timing cover assembly to open things and take a look without completely removing everything you mentioned. I think I remember 5-6 bolts have to be removed to get the top 1/2 of the cover out. If there is oil everywhere under the timing cover you have a leak that will most likely get bigger over time.

thank you for the help, I will check it out sometime. The leak was not severe. I am not noticing anymore oil loss since I patched it up, to be more specific the leak was located directly behind the thermostat. Also I should mention I have a timing chain not belt

My mistake, for some reason I got thinking of the 4d56 and timing belts and you clearly said the 4m40. I would agree with your strategy of monitoring oil loss carefully.
