Today on of my alternator/fan/waterpump belts blew. I am having a very hard time finding replacements. The belts that were on there were marked AV10x970. The closest I could find was AV11x990. I'm not to worried about the extra length but will the 1mm more in width cause issues. My a/c has been squealing when turned on so I haven't been using it. And today when the fan belt blew the a/c belt came off. So I may just leave it off until I replace the A/C compressor. My main issue is these fan belts, as I don't feel safe running with just the one.
Where can I get proper belts to replace these? Someone please set me in the right direction. I have the 2.8L.

Order them from any of the dealers listed on the site. I know rising sun should have some. Cheap and fast to send them.

Coombs Country Auto's in BC has them on their site for cheap. http://ccautos.ca/parts/mitsubishi-28/p ... 6.html?p=3 This is for my 94 LWB Paj.
Pretty far away from you but that's the only one that has it on their website. MaxOverdrive's site doesn't work, and Rising Sun doesn't advertise any. I bought a pitman and idler arm from CCautos and it was a good experience.

Re: Where can I find new belts?? Please
So I picked up 2 AV10x990 through right drive. I'm am having an issue where when I tighten the adjuster on the alternator the innermost belt is tighter than the outermost. How much tension should I have, and should they be exactly as tight as each other?

So I reversed the belts, and added tension while I tightened them up. I think I've got them just about the same. How tight should they be, I've heard 1/4 inch flex up to 3/4. Is there a precise tension they should be at?

Re: Where can I find new belts?? Please
So I am starting to get frustrated with these belts. I tightened everything up, started the truck and took at look at the belts. No squeaking but the innermost belt is moving around quite a bit. I shut it off and checked the tension and the inner belt is looser than the outer. I don't want to tighten it much more because the front belt seems about right. The production date on the belts is the same and there made in Germany, so you would think they are equal lengths. Is there some sort of trick to this, or am I missing something. Please help me out.

Some belts are sold as matched pairs so that this kind of disimmilar tension issue does not happen.
There are not many vehicles that use a dual belt system unless the engine puts out crazy torque which can cause belt slippage (sqeals like a pig!)...hence dual belt to reduce slippage.
You can probably get away with one belt unless you plan on doing water crossings or off road stuff.
Proper belt tension should have 1/4" in either direction so 1/2" to 3/4" total play is normal. I usually check belt tension at the longest span between 2 pulleys.
Now a belt should not fully rest at the bottom of a pulley groove and it should not be sitting to high above the top of the pulley wall. Belts need friction to operate and if this isn't correct you can severely reduce belt life.
Something that maybe of value: Some reputable parts suppliers have a belt gauge behind the counter to measure belt length, V-groove size and belt width. If you have the old belt you can always use this get a close-enough match...yes even the broken one can be of use.

I tightened them up some more, and I think they should be fine. It just seems impossible to find these belts in pairs.
Thanks for the help. Next stop fuel filter.

Re: Where can I find new belts?? Please
Hi There;
I would recommend pulling out the old belts and getting them matched at either NAPA (Mississauga/Brampton) or Carquest (Oakville). These shops have some good staff in them that will give you the best matching belts. (and they will accept you returning them if the belts do not fit) Avoid crappy tire.
The other thing that may be happening (that happened to me) is that the actual tension-er pulley on for the AC has a bearing that wears out and squeeks that you can confuse as the belts slipping. To test this just pull out the AC belt and see if the squeek stops. (you can drive w/o the AC it is just sticky hot this time of year)
