Deli Camp - May Long Weekend?

Post by kb&2dogs »

Who would be game for a Deli camping weekend - I'd suggest May long weekend, one of the forestry sites north of Campbell River. There are lots of great spots to choose from. We have tons of camping gear if someone wants to go but doesn't have all the "stuff". Would be a ton o'fun!

we'd be open to suggestions as for locations. We have our Backroads Mapbook which is our bible, so we can find pretty much anyplace you name on the island. (Not really provincial campground campers though).

That might work out well for me and my son. My wife and daughter are playing in a soccer tourny in Kelowna and the boys aren't welcome!! :-)

Sounds great and we are interested, for sure, though if the snow is gone from the higher country I may want to get out caving that wknd instead - it's been a grim, long winter with no time underground for several months and the May long-wknd is often the occasion for a good trip... It's a bit of toss up for me, though I will keep a close eye on this thread. And may I suggest that if you do come through Campbell River stop in at one of outdoor stores and have a look at the C.R. Search & Rescue map. AWESOME map with great detail of ALL the back-roads in the area for a long way around CR. Very useful, and well worth the ten bucks or so - A good compliment to the BC Back-roads map book. I'm not much of a Prov. campgrounder either, nor even the Forestry sites, just find a nice out of the way spot and leave it as I found it :M :-D

Tofino's a possiblility, maybe Kennedy Lake Forestry site?? or Port Alberni (Snow Creek), or one of the lakes north of Campbell River. I know, I know, the price of fuel is killing us all, but we're talking camping....long weekend....backroads.....cold beers! - (oops did I say that out loud?).

Any other ideas we should toss into the mix for places to go?

I've been doing some checking and the Rec Site at Snow Creek (Sproat Lake) looks pretty good. I'm waiting to hear back from the Tourism guy if the road is clear or snowed in, should have an answer on Monday. Anyhow, it's a reconstructed rec site with 27 campsites, all new and improved, so should be pretty nice. They said there may be a fee, but it's not determined yet, but it may be $5 a night per site. Good lake access (boat launch). What say you all??

Sounds good to me! With such a site I may even be able to convince my wife to come along...she's such a city girl! Anyhow, thanks for looking into this. I'm still very interested and aiming at this option for the long weekend. No issue to bring a dog?
