I thought that was pretty much the only thing to do while winter camping! Gotta keep the van warm somehow!

Re: Pot luck dinner Saturday night
I'm bringing my barbeque and can bake potatoes with sour cream and butter. Anyone interested in making chili or?, deserts, salad, coffee or wine?

Rich has a chain saw (compliments of djjack) so we can sit around the fire Sat night.

I'll send this to Rich and post his reply here.

Christine- How big is your tarp?

thx

Hi Wayne, thx for organizing this.

Tarps: your choice. Discuss with you tonight at Ikea MeatUp. I think the biggest is thick 30 x 50, but very heavy. The 20 x 30 is more useful. Herds of lesser sizes. Adjustable metal poles to hold up edges and centre. Ropes of all types. All I ask is please do not ask Jay to demonstrate knots until AFTER all is assembled, or else 2 hours later you will still be assessing which knot is best for a given situation ie a butterfly or a waterfall or -- hey can you tie a bowline one handed - behind your back - upside down - under water --- no don't ask for the demo, just leave the whole topic for sitting around campfire time.

Food: bringing a precooked main dish with Turkey something (in creamy sauce) and will be gluten free to satisfy Toni, and no wierd Veg to satisfy Jay ... anyone else have food restrictions? I was gonna reheat over campfire in my cast iron dutch oven, but maybe I'll use your bbq, if room (what size pan?) Hearty cookies. Howbout buttered scones for appies, I'll make if each person brings your toasting forks. and you must also sing the Monty Python song I'm a Lumberjack, with special sung emphasis on the line "Have buttered scones for tea".

Table: do we want our folding wooden one, heavy, 2 ft x 5 ft. Or just rough camp.

Firewood: small dry stuff and 2x4 off cuts, 2 large crates. Have bigger branch cuts, but don't have room to carry and still see out the back window, will bring if someone else can carry.

Reminder to all, bring those reflective sunshade things for car window, cuz 2 layers under your seat while sitting round campfire will keep tush toasty.

Snow, how much is around, assuming we're trudging about our campsite in 1 foot snow? or do we need the fish waders cuz its deeper?

Talk to you all tonight. Christine.

Felix Bring desert for 7 people

Rich is bringing a big breakfast, and it sound gooood!

Christine
Tarps: 20X20 would be grreat. Ill bring ropes and stakes, hammer but we should be able to drap over the delicas and cook under your awning with seating for all close by. I have 8 foot long poles too.

Food: precooked main dish with Turkey something (in creamy sauce) sounds good. I'll bring Baked potatoes, sour cream, chives, butter too. Xtra lge potatoe for Jay. Peas too?
No food allergies with me.

Reheat your cast iron dutch oven on my bbq or coleman stove. How big is your dutch oven? Are toasting forks to be used on the campfire? I can't sing well! but willl bring the Monty Python song I'm a Lumberjack, with special sung emphasis on the line "Have buttered scones for tea".

I'll bring my Table 2 1/2'X6'.

Firewood: as you wish. We have a chain saw too.

Bring own lawn chairs, dishes and cutlery.

It'll be wet but we don't need to camp in the snow this time. Wellingtons probably.

Just found out about this one today (a handy call from Rich) and I'm going to try to attend! Yes I do still exist, rumors of my demise were mostly exaggerated (although I barely made it back alive from a motorcycle trip to mexico in the fall).

Last weekend I did a backcountry snowboarding trip, snowshoed up to 1500m on a mountain near squamish and tented in the snow. -15c overnight, in a summer tent and 0 degree sleeping bag-- Arg. Warmer temps, a delica, and crazy warm blankets should be much more comfortable!

I don't think I have any conflicting plans this weekend so I'll try to make it. I tossed my camp gear in the van tonight, have
-full set of snow chains (have had them for years, haven't even test fit, but they are the right size :? ) anyway the Duratrac tires a quite genius in the snow :)
-snowboard & snowshoes :-D just in case there is fun snow around
-stove, dishes, etc
-shovels, axe, farm jack, 2ton comealong, heaps of towstraps
-camp chairs, 2 big tarps, ..

What else should I bring? looks like you guys have everything sorted. Want me to pick up snacks? smokies? wine?

Will be nice to see everyone again.

I doubt I can convince the girlfriend to come camping in the winter.. She's tough to convince even in the summer :-)

So it will be just me.

My cooking is not recommended for human consumption :? , I'll pick up 10 people worth of wine? what is that, 3 red and 3 white?

If we come it will be last min in the morning as were both finishing up some work.

All of our sleeping/camping gear is up in whistler so we'd just be coming for the day to play.

OK, my food contribution is ready for tomorrow's dinner, just need to reheat (over the fire if we get it going nicely).

So I just made a big pot of Turkey Stew with hearty vegetables (onion, celery, carrot, corn) thickened with rice (yes, gluten free for Toni). The scones are just out of the oven, very tempting, so far I only ate one ... but Jay will be back home soon.

And I made some gluten free scones for Toni -- not sure about these, kinda heavy, it was a new recipe, oh well ... they're healthy. Worst case scenario we use them as hockey pucks while wearing snowshoes (so Canadian) or throw bits at the birds making noise in the morning before it is a civilized time to arise.

Who has space to carry some clean cardboard boxes of wood? I can pack 4 boxes to 6 (grocery store apple box size) if someone has room.

Cheers, Christine.
