So about a week ago i was in Vancouver for a few days and i saw my first Delica , then my second and third.....and I think im in love. I'm considering getting one, atm I have a 1980 volvo diesel. So far its been a great car and im now a huge fan of diesel. I am curious though has anyone had one in sub zero temps for long periods of time? I live in Edmonton and the winters are a little harder on vehicles then on the coast I would guess. Hows the heater? Do they come with block heaters or anything like that? My last question involves service, can they be worked on by any Mitsubishi dealer, canadian tire mech? or do you think im going to have to look for someone out of thier garage. I can do some work on my own but as for engines and timeing belts I dont know how comfortable I would feal about ripping it apart Any info would be great

hi james, i have had mine skiing a few times and the heating system works great. japan has basically the same climate has here on the coast including the colder temps. i assume that putting a block heater would be the same as any diesel engine. as far as the service part goes, we are all in the same boat so to speak and with the help of this site and each other we seem to working things out.

I have a shop in town that I want to change the timing belts, build a larger exhaust and give my wife's a major tune up. They are more then willing because I have done my homework for parts and discussed all that with them. There is so much information between the aussie and UK Delica forums, and don't miss the Pajero and Mitsubishi forums, to provide you with hopefully a answer to any thing, that has come up before for someone else. Owning one of these vehicle is quite easy if you do the homework first, though bringing a Deli into a shop that has never seen one it's funny seeing there faces.
It great that this Canadian forum is growing also, it provides us with more local support for any issues that may arise.

I live in bloody freezing Quebec and mine is a bugger to start in the winter. You really need a block heater or what I did was installed a recirculating coolant heater. I think you can get a thermostat for colder temperatures too. Even with this you may have to try a few times with the glow plugs before it gets going well. There are propane starting systems that will allow you to startup without plugging in the block, but they are expensive.
It takes awhile to get the engine up to temperature when it is below 30c.
Once its running you should have no problems, but watch for snow accumulation in front of the motor if you plan on going in deep snow.
