Hi there... my name is Jon, I'm a musician and I work in TV production in Vancouver. I'm not actually a Delica owner, I just want to be one! I've recently heard that import laws in Canada have changed and certain Japanese models are now import-duty free and have been hitting the Canadian market. I'd love some advice on where to look for reputable dealers in the Vancouver area... I'm not particularly good with auto mechanics and obviously I'm scared of getting burned, so any buying tips/pitfalls and so on would be appreciated!
Jon

Re: Hi from Vancouver
actually thought it might be worth mentioning, we used to have a Mitsubishi Pajero in our family for about 10 years, throughout the 90s... I loved that vehicle. It could go absolutely anywhere... so I'd be stoked to be a Mitsubishi owner again ![Very Happy :-D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Re: Hi from Vancouver
Welcome to the forum. I imported an Jimny earlier this year and found no new import rules. That's not to say anything has changed, but l think you're good to go. I have a buyer in Japan if you're wanting to import direct. If not there are a few good resellers around town.

Re: Hi from Vancouver
hi, welcome to the forum,
I never heared certain Japanese model is duty free, all of them is subject to duty & Taxes nothing is free when it come to vehicle.
the only duty free is the if car is made in USA, Canada or mexico as for the free trade aggrement of this 3 country.
as per getting any cars from japan its your choice getting cars from a dealer here locally with warranty or take a chance in getting cars from japan without any warranty and service, this will be the difference between direct import and local buy from a dealer.
its your choice. its not you get burn when buying this vehicle its your choice to see which way you want to go.
remember all this car in japan need all service. from 40,000 kms up, as thru the age. no such thing as you don't need service.
have your budget and see which is the best for you.
if you need help you can call me anytime consultation is free.
cheers
Mardy

Re: Hi from Vancouver
Thanks for the replies, I must have been misinformed about the import duty, I thought I had heard that older models were now exempt but I guess that's not the case.
Is insuring a RHD vehicle more expensive? Does it affect the cost and difficulty of service/repairs?
I like the sound of your service Mardy, I may contact you in the future :)
