HEADLIGHTS,

Post by EnviroImports.com »

Hello everyone, I just bought a delica and am faced with the same Highdollar headlight fix as the rest of you, I have an idea that I think should be legal but wanted to get some input from the rest of the pack ( you all) lol
$400 seems like a lot for a simple set of headlights .
SO has anyone tried taking the headlights that come with our inports and taking a simple fiberglass mold of them, easily done for cheap with some simple epoxy from Industrial plastics or even Crappy tire.
make the mold good and strong, could even lay in some carbon fiber, its very easy, then cut an opening and mount some standard headlights with the mounting gear and such from anything at a wrecker, i was thinking of the dual hi/low beam lights in many scrap yard junkers, could even mount on the corners or cut them into the mold some nice LED lights for signals I get mine from p&r westernstar, they are dot aproved, so we would have legal headlights, and signals , for a heck of alot less than $400, I imagine the first couple trial ones would be crap, but after about 3 trials it should just be a simple cut out, with a good template. this way its strong if you do multiple layer of glass, or even carbon fiber, or many of the super strong cloths available and could even color match your vehicle or have that sexy carbon fiber on the outside
Let me know what you think.
thanks
Noel :D

I think it's a good idea, maybe call transport Canada first for approval. If it works you can sell your model on the Delica forum; for less then $400 of course. A sexy, carbon fibre light assemply would be in high demand for all the Deli' mod'ers around here. Sounds like it would take a lot of time.

Im going to give this a try and see how it looks coming out of the mold. real carbon fiber, (not stickers) is actually very easy to work with when molding something, its the cutting it thats hard, Ive been told its 6 times stronger than steel at the same thickness. I will post a couple picts once its done, im not sure if I should lay the cloth over the existing lights, or make a vacuum mold of the lights either way its really nothing to try it, just some time and a few bucks.
wish me luck, and if anyone has some sugestions let me know, OH ya, do the rear lights of the delica have to be replaced? I have some great ideas for them with checkerplate mounts and led lights with directional arrows .

Headlights

I just bought a headlamp for my wife's Pontiac (some deadbeat backed into it and drove off without leaving a note) and I paid $289 for it. I have paid more for headlamps on other models (Honda comes to mind) so in my eyes, $450 for a pair on a vehicle that wasn't originally sold here seems pretty reasonable. No?

Hi all, well I can only speak for me, but I think that the price of these headlights is going up constantly as we need them and dont have much choice.
Does anyone here know if the headlight assembly from the older delicas would fit the 91's as that would fix things right up since they have the easy to swap smaller rectangular ones.
Oh and thanks for the Donation of the japan healights to try to make this mold for new lights.

Ive seen the "fix" headlights from $350-$450
and if we are stuck for them im sure that the price will go up more than that espescially if we dont have any other choices, Sort of like the gasoline comapany charging what they feel we will pay even if we grumble, we dont have a choice.
LONG LIVE WVO... sorry starting to run with the tangent in my mind

Nico tech in Hamburg sold me two pairs total cost just over $500 duties shipping etc.

Thats FOUR projector dual light assembly's for less than $150 each.
Thats pretty good compared to what you'd have to fork out for something domestic.

For that price I reckon it's not worth fiddling about to find a cheap solution for something as crucial as headlights.

Sure they are made offshore, but they bolt up and work just fine.

Be aware there are certain E code lights which are not compliant on account of the arrow on the glass pointing the wrong way. I know for a fact the DEPO ones are fully compliant

Well thats alot better sounding deal than $400 or $450 a set.... can you post a link to them or a website for them or a phone number? I know for $150 a set I would buy them lol
but I think im still going to make a set just to see how it turns out. :D

150each... not per set. but still sounds like a good deal. Of course on my 89 I don't have these problems.

after working on a set of DOT lights and adapter for the back of a LJ78 Land Cruiser, the adapter is NOT worth the hassle if you can get a bolt in for $150...now that being said if you are doing the adapter just for the fun of the challenge then more power to you... :D 8)
can i ask for a link or direction to where to find these almost direct bolt in lights? i will be needing a few more sets and i would rather not pay $450 for a set of "need to modify to kind of fit" lamps again...
<it will be interesting to see if lamps that come in from Europe can arrive unbusted, since we couldn't even get a set from Vancouver with out one getting busted (no warranty, you pays your money, you takes your chances. ..oh, one got busted due to poor packaging? too bad, so sad...go cry on someone elses shoulder   )
cheers

Hmm, I wonder if Since we all seem to be getting delica's and this being a Delica site, why not organise a group buy, Ive done this befor on island4x4.com for tires and it work'd great, Maybe we need a new topic on how many people would be willing to go in on a large order for them, I would take two sets, Im sure alot of the importers/dealers would want to get in on it. as they are bringing in more and more all the time..
If no one else wants to lead this up I would be interested. Or since no one here knows me maybe the moderators would be interested.
Either way lets make this happen, Always a better deal on a mass order and the shipping would be minimal also since it would be spread out over the whole deal
Let me know

I need 2 sets, and two other delica owners need a set each, so thats 4, lets try to use economy of scale here.

well so far that makes 10 sets, I have a price if its 20 allready, but am still waiting to hear from the wholesaler in europe,
but really the order needs to be at least twice what we have now so if people dont speak up then it wont happen
I started a new thread, you have all seen it,
"headlight group buy"

I am not trying to get a free pair out of this deal, I am trying to get the best price for everyone, sort of a buy one lightbulb from the corner store for $5.99 or go to costco and buy 20 for $19.95.... but it cant happen unless more people get involved.

njmanuel@yahoo.com, oh ya im in Victoria
