LWB rear coils and tbar adjustment will net you 2" lift on your shorty.

Hi Jeff,

Can I use the stock shocks with the Lift Kit #6? Will it affect the ecs? When do you get them in? Any idea on cost?

Thanks

you'll need 2" longer shocks as per my quote in the first post and ecs is tied to the solenoid ontop of the stock shocks. You can buy ecs shocks but they cost an arm and a leg. There is a thread about them in the L400 section.

I'm picking up the rear spacers next week and will have a cost/update then.

Hey,

I just have a few question about the lift kits. What are the big differences between the 2" and 3" lifts in terms of ride and tipsiness? I am interested in putting a lift in my van however am not sure if I want to get a 2" or 3" lift. Are there pictures of delica's with these lifts in them? Do these lifts require the torsion bars to be adjusted as much as they can be?
Is there a price for either lift kit #2 and #4? I just finished my degree today so will not have money for about a month, will these lifts still be available?

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

There are plenty of kits. 20 L300 and 20 L400 kits in total on this batch.

I will be assembling them and have them ready by the end of this month within 2 weeks.

I will be updating the pricing at that points once I receive the shocks as well.

The 3" L300 kit will not be available until May.

The 3" L300 lift is more for someone who would like to run larger than a 31" tires. More along the lines of a true 31" mud tire or 32" All-terrain.

Myself, I prefer the 2" lift. When installed properly with good tires, it firms up the ride and almost eliminates any side to side wobble than all vans have a tendency to do.

Semi-OT: Just wondering how a lift eliminates any side to side wobble? Due to the tbar crank stiffening up the suspension a bit? Or from the aftermarket shocks? Just wondering as my Liteace frontend squirmyness improved a lot with better tires but it could still use some improvement...if a simple tbar crank might make a noticeable difference I'll add that to the todo list.

More tension on the torsion bars and good shocks will reduced wobble.

Unless the shocks have been changed recently, most JDM vehicles come from Japan with poor condition shocks. That's the reason why you can see a few quality dealers that replace all shocks on all of their vehicles coming from Japan regardless of how good the originals 'look'.

Well... I had said a while back that I wouldn't lift my Delica but, it seems, I have to eat my words now. After some ground clearance issues, I wanted to help my faithful companion get through trails without as much front step grinding and plate bashing so... I purchased a full L300 kit and have now had it professionally installed by a shop here in Calgary. In order to save time (thus money) I asked Jesse a number of questions so I could pass on as much information as possible to the guys at the shop. All went very well and the kit was installed and alignment done with only minor issues - none of which haven't been brought up before. I will try to summarize as best as I can but first want to give everyone a real before and after visual as the impact is lost once larger tires are added to the equation. Sooo... here's the before shot...

Now, to install the kit, the shackles go on the back end of the rear leaf springs. Here's a shot of the rear passenger side looking from the rear diff housing. No, that's not rust already on the bolts... it's the reflection of the yellow paint on my hitch...

The one minor issue is the rear brake line bracket will need to be relocated to compensate for the rear axle assembly being dropped as a result of the shackles. Here's a pic of the location of the bracket and a close-up of the bracket itself...

On to the front of the van... here's a pic of the location for the ball joint spacer. This shot is looking up at the upper control arm and upper ball joint assembly. The bevelled face of the spacer faces up - other than that there is only one way it can be installed. Just make sure the bolts are vertical and not tilted off-angle. The second pic is a close-up of the ball joint where you can see a bit of the installed spacer showing...

The torsion bars will require re-indexing and adjustment to provide the front lift. Mine required one extra spline on one side to compensate for extra sag. Both adjusters are now at the same angle which theoretically should provide the same amount of tension (springyness) to the front suspension. All said it was 6 hours of shop time to do the job.

I have to say I am thrilled with the end result in both appearance and performance. The van sits much higher now - seems more than 2 inches - and drives really well on and off road. The front doesn't seem to dive as much coming down steep slopes and I can confidently negotiate cross ditches and many obstacles I couldn't before, especially when it involves the approach angle. The unfamilar part right now is side angles... will be more confident with wider tires altho I still pushed her to 35 degrees  .

Kudos to Jesse for putting these together!
Cheers!
Ian
