The timing chain in my L400 skipped and tore apart the engine.
I'm looking at the possibility of sourcing a replacement engine. Anyone have any leads/suggestions?

getting perspective on a mechanic bill
Hello Folks, Can you help me get perspective on a mechanic's bill? I'll say what was done and you tell how many hours you figure it could/should be. 1) Replace ring gear/flex plate. While in there replace crankshaft rear main seal, replace starter drive, replace transmission input seal. 2) Replace r...

Re: L400 starter gear rings
thanks for your great feedback jfarsang - just a quick question:
The hexbolts you're referring to are the flexplate mounting bolts? So I shouldn't need to order any bolts?

Re: L400 starter gear rings
looks like i need a "drive plate" / "flex plate".

thanks.

L400 starter gear rings
after a enduring a run of mis-starts on my l400 i finally brought it in to my mechanic to have the starter rebuilt.
the starter was fine but the gear-rings were totalled. ack.
any suggestions on how to proceed? seems like a big fix and a difficult part to source. . ..

Re: Cold Starting Problem
i typically hear the first click about 7 seconds after starting. the second click is typically several minutes later after the vehicle is running.

Re: Cold Starting Problem
thanks lopar, very helpfully information.
yup indeed, it is the L400. Funny, I was previously cycling the plugs on and off for a cold start and my mechanic told me not to. He suggested just leaving them on for 20 seconds and then cranking but he's not really a Deli-Mechanic.

Cold Starting Problem
Hi Folks, First off, it's not that cold . . . about -7C. I've had the block heater going for about 2 hours. I turn the ignition and let the glow plugs (hopefully) heat for about 20 seconds before I start cranking. The starter cranks but the engine won't fire. Rinse, repeat. No firing. Clearly, the g...

New and looking for a Shuswap/North Okanagan mechanic
Hi Folks,
Driving a 1995 L400. Liking it but presently trying to work through some cold starting issues. Ultimately, I'd love to be working with a local(ish) mechanic who is familiar with the vehicle and can help with regular maintenance/repairs/improvements.
Any suggestions?
