Re: Working out the kinks in my 96 l400 chamonix
I wouldn't waste time with the magnetic heaters. I picked on up at a garage sale and I'm glad I only lost $5 on the deal. Block heater is the way to go, pan heater is the next option. I have started mine at -35C unplugged with good glow plugs, fresh batteries and synthetic oil. Not recommended to do...

Be prepared to take out your angle grander to cut it off. Here in Wpg they rust on very well and I have had little success spinning one off if it is more than 2yrs old.

The fan shroud is 2 piece. Go from underneath and locate the clip/snap in points. It separates fairly intuitively if you have a good light on it. Once the thin bottom piece is off it lifts out the top no problem. Caution on the impact gun suggestion. Bearings don't like that vibration for vary long....

If it was a LWB L400 with a cracked windshield, that was my wife who uses the van a lot for work purposes. As for who we use for safty, I did mine in BC when we picked up the van to avoid the issue of MPI getting sticky here in MB. Cost me a fair bit extra as I had to pay for someone else to do the ...

ditto on the cleaning of connections. This gets me almost yearly. They look good from the outside but when I pull them I see a thin layer of acid build up. Baking Soda in water and an old tooth brush is the best way to solve it. If that doesn't work then move on to the ground connection on the start...

Re: Praire owners, I need help deciding
Had my l400 for almost 4 yrs. now. We do Wpg-BC 1-2x's/yr. We load it to the gills. The winds are as challenging as the mountains. We had 4 adult, 3 kids, dog, 12' tent trailer, roof rack (stacked up), aux 200 lt tank of veggie + 100 lt veggie, 5 bikes. I have a pyro (best investment ever) and neede...

Re: Delica battery
I have heard from a number of automotive battery pro's that one big battery can not match two small one's. I got my at Walmart, 3yr replacement warrenty. The van is gone right now so I can't confirm the size but I do recall that I ended up with slightly shorter batteries (height) than the stock one'...

Re: L400 alternator/battery?
Clean ALL your battery terminal connections with baking powder and water. Then check. If there is still a problem check the connections at the starter. Still no help get the charging system looked at. If the batteries were fine (and still are) it is an alternator issue most likely.

Sorry people,
Ended up having company that evening we had been trying to connect with for some time. I'm in if we do it again...snow or no snow.

I put one amp under each front seat. One old school Sony 4 channel amp (fairly large) under the drivers and new generation alpine (pdx) under the passenger seat because that is what I had. The amps now a days are significantly smaller and cheaper than back in the day. For entry level you may want to...
