Re: Black smoke. help!

I had major black smoke (constant not intermittent as described) and really rich smelling exhaust. The problem ended up being a broken intake rocker arm; more specifically the roller broke out of the arm.

Re: Squealing from Rad/vent fan?

Maybe it is the common wind noise from around the headlights. If you have not already done so, rip off the foam seal on top of the headlights; this quiets much of the sound. I still get some noise and taped all around my headlights to see if it would go away and it did. I have since took the tape of...

Re: Butch at CVI is AWESOME!!!

I just had my van fixed at CVI and I have to concur. Butch got me in on short notice and found me a second hand rocker arm to get me going in a day. Thanks!

Re: Alternator help needed asap!!

I paid $370 which I think is way high but didn't know it would be so much until I got the bill. I noticed that Maximum Overdrive is selling them for $250 (not sure if they are rebuilt or what; either way sounds like a great deal). Re: Re-charge A/C

My A/C was not working, here is what I did to troubleshoot the problem: 1) Check the fuses (behind the glove box; box needs to be removed). My main A/C fan fuse was blown. Another topic shows fuses and relays. 2) After replacing fuse, still no cool air; I could see the the compressor was not engagin...

Re: OOP OK Headlights

I spoke to one of the dealers selling L400s and he told me that the headlights are costing them $800 a pair and they have a contact in Germany through which they order them. For small quantities they have to get them shipped by air which adds almost $200 to the cost so they have been only ordering 3...

Re: Just flipped my van

I had a similar experience with a ICBC about 5 years ago. I basically had to pull together all the advertisements for similar vehicles and 'make a case' that mine was of comparable or greater value (basically what you think the appraiser should be doing  )

Re: Import to the US??

As far as I know, how long you live abroad had no bearing on your ability to import a vehicle. What matters it that it meets the safety standards... About 10 years ago, I relocated to the US (temporarily) and brought my 71 VW Super Beetle. I did not think much of it until I went to license it... I w...

Re: Need help with some Importing Info

About 10 years ago, I relocated to the US (temporarily) and brought my 71 VW Super Beetle. I did not think much of it until I went to license it... I was told that in order to get Ohio ownership papers to have it licensed I had to prove that it met US safety standards for the year in which it was ma...

Re: Transmission filter?

I just changed my tranny fluid again. This time I also took the pan off and the total fluid volume was about 4 Liters. I also cleaned the screen filter and put it back on (I could not justify replacing it with only 12,000 km on it; It was not very dirty). I also added some additional supper strong m...

Re: Wet feet-need help

I cant even undo the 5 screws holding the front panel in to seal the gap :-( next line is to seal the windscreen. In the meantime i have removed the bung from the footwell, any water can bloomin well drip out of there. plus some breeze from ambling along should help dry the carpet :-D until i pluck...

Re: Wet feet-need help

Well I finally figured my leak out. Water was coming in the windshield wiper posts. It turns out that they were loose; I folded back the rubber cover, tightened the nuts up and have not had a wet floor in a few weeks. Ya!
