rocker bearing failure gound up needles in bearing have disappeared
The seemingly small problem of valve clearance appears to have created many more for me. The roller bearing has about 20 needles in it. I found three plus half of one. I thought the others must have worked out and fallen into the oil pan. I have flushed the pan twice, collecting and examining the fl...

Re: valve clearance changed
Thanks Growlerbernz. You got me checking the rocker arms and led to removing the shaft they are operating on. The valve that I was most concerned about had a failed bearing on the roller. This was the front exhaust valve. The other exhaust roller bearings are loose. My Delica has just 122K on it - s...

valve clearance changed
The engine developed a "lope", lost power, and started smoking while climbing a hill. I first thought it was the injectors, but decided to test compression. All in the 300 + range. Took off the valve cover to check valve clearance. Some valves had very wide clearance. I had set them 2 year...

Re: Rough first starts in all temperatures...
Mine did the same, and tried many things until I did what the previous owner had done - add diesel fuel conditioner (quite a few different brands available) to each fillup. Doesn't start like a good gas engine, but close.

That jingling ain't Santa Claus' reindeer!
After changing all fluids Etc. and putting in new timing and balance belts, I thought I was in for a time of good driving. I had inspected the tensioners - they seemed fine, so I ignored the good advice of others to put in new ones. The good driving lasted 1000km! Even before then, I started hearing...

Re: Working on my Delica
Thanks for your interest. Sorry, I forgot to say my Delica is a 1991, L300. It doesn't have a winter package. I think it has the original Japan settings for the glowplugs - have to listen to the relay click on and off to know what's happening, and the time between the clicks is about 5 seconds. My K...

Working on my Delica
Bought my first Delica L300 Exceed, 2.5 diesel 4WD Automatic in December. The seller admitted to starting problems and suggested a block heater. I am familiar with diesels (have a 1993 VW Passat diesel and two Kubota diesel tractors), so the task of getting it starting didn’t seem too daunting. Duri...
