funny, i was about to post about the SAME problem. if the lights are on, i can take the key all the way out, and it still runs! until i turn the lights off. i went and got a new battery, (needed to anyway) now the battery isn't charging, the dash lights don't work, and we need a jump to get it start...

I've cleaned the battery terminals, tried jumping it off a running car… no change. i don't want to have it towed to a mechanic just to find out it was something silly and common/easy to fix.

Okay, there are lots of places to put your spare, and lots of ways to break in to your delica. I found big city cantires have the right key. Small town ones get confused. And I've occasionally lost my key, found the one caked in mud stuck under the van with magnets, lost it, got the one mailed to me...

Had battery checked, it's fine.
Got battery back into the van, jumped it using the car... And sparks flew! Down in the engine compartment. Then it started.
Perhaps a loose wire, something making contact where it shouldn't near the starter?

okay, i'll take the battery somewhere today and have a checked out. hopefully it's that easy of a fix. Thanks.

just to close this thread... I brought the van to RADD cruisers in Duncan. Let me just say these guys are really nice, seem very honest, and although they work mostly on rhd toyota land cruisers, will work on other imports. I had a totally positive experience with them, and highly recommend them. ht...
