Strange request for Delica owners in Calgary

Hi all. The first one of these vans I noticed was leathercat's; I work near that shop and was very interested in the van from the time I first saw it. In fact, I notice that recently he seems to keep the curtains drawn in it and I wonder if gawkers like me are part of the cause of that
One of the reasons that I'm considering buying one of these is that I intend to use it as a place to practise my trombone; I definitely can't play it in the office during the day and mutes work pretty but they're not quite the same as playing open. Is there anyone in Calgary that would be willing to let me try playing my trombone inside their Delica to see if it's phpysically viable? I promise I won't empty the spit valve inside!
Thanks!
Greg

hmmm, tromBone, thats a new word for it...... lol just joking with you,
I sold a Delica 2 weeks ago and with the armor all, raycor fuel lubricant and other things that went with the van I included a Bottle of WINDEX because AND i'm Tottaly serious here, I was getting SOOOOOOo tired of wiping GREESE spots off my windows, I could actually see the where people would put the edges of there hands on the glass with a forhead mark and sometimes a nose. I get the fasination, but I was getting tired of the constant cleaning of my windows, I think your best bet is to leave a note on the van about wanting to ask about it, Oh and you may not want to start off with 'I want to play with my "instriment" in your van'
lol
sorry, couldent resist

heheheheh.....i KNEW that there would be at least some....er....alternative content regarding my use of he bone inside a stranger's van....not sure if pulling the curtains wouldhelp in that regard? (if you or anyone else wants to share bone jokes with me, feel free.....I won't claim to have heard them all but I've heard a few.....my statemenmt about my own is that it's got a 10.5in bell and it's so big, I gotta carry it in a case.....but enough of the inuendo :) )
It so happens that I'm going to be in Parksville in a few weeks to go on vacation; I'm not suggesting that I whip out my instrument in YOUR van....not with the humid climate out there (man! now you've got me started), in fact I may leave the old beast at home. Where I AM leading is that one of the main importers of these things in Western Canada is in Victoria, is he not? I might stop by there for a little shopping trip if they're into that.....
Seems to me there are a few Delica owners out there on the island on here but I haven't done a very good job of paying attention to that

There's a buttload of Deli's on the Island. Parksville seems to be Deli central. There are three dealers in Parksville and Coombs- Fiver Star, VI Custom Imports and Global Garage.
Fiver Star is right on the main highway at the south end of Parksville, that's where I picked up my van. They've usually got quite few Deli's on the lot waiting to be prepped at CC Auto in Coombs. They do a really thorough job.

Well I have one that arrives on the July 12th, and should be here on the island a couple days later, if you want to lay down some plastic (so you dont get the carpet dirty) and make your dont dont stain the van you can try blowing your bone in the van, (you must do yoga) but you stain it, you bought it, sounds like a big bone, so its a good thing its a high roof deli. not to familiar with that instrument, now does it have that spitting problem like some of the other (blowing music makers)
Hmm, maybe you should put some plastic on the walls, ya Ok, maybe you should put down a damage deposit ora vehicle deposit......lol
hahahahaha,

Westcoast; I'm having a difficult time typing right nnow because of the sheer volume of bone-stain jokes flying around in my mind right now....hahahahah.......must......resist.......toilet...hu.....mour,......aaarrrgghhhh
Halfway seriously, the instrument itself is a bass trombone which has an oversized bell (10.5 in) but as far as other space requirements for a player, doesn't rally demand anything significant over a regular (tenor) trombone. They don't really have leakage problems and my spit valve actually seals pretty well but as you're either aware or have guessed by this point, the player does need to let the water out of them from time to time. It's actually more condensation than it is saliva (which sounds much more gross than "spit") but there is also some amount of oil in there from the slide and in my case valves of the thing so emptying inside someone else's car is not a polite thing to do :)
There's no real risk of a mess from the thing, I was just making a bit of a joke in my initial post. I'd bet there's actually a greater risk of mess from driving around with a cup of coffee or a coke or something.
Nisseman: great info, thanks! I'll be looking around for these places when I'm out there.

Hi Greg,
I'm in Calgary, you could try out your... er... trombone in my van if you like. It has curtains and fabric protection... I'll just wait outside, all you need is 15 seconds, right?

Jon; sounds perfect!
Not sure what time I've managed to work up to these days (no hands free) but 15sec sounds like it should be enough....heh...
Oh! and how're the shocks in your van?

Sorry I've not been more active in the forum recently but as I've been living between two cities and working in Edmonton at my new position, I've not had a lot of time to get on the net. I finally found an apartment in Edmonton and should be back on line from there by next weekend. BTW I'd have let you play your bone in the bus. It's much easier to transport than my organ which weighs in at about 200 lb.

Holy crap!
I am humbled....the bigger fish caught up with me....
That wouldn't happen to be a Hammond of some type, would it?
You're lucky you took off to Edmonton, I was about to start haranguing you with questions about the bus

Yes, it actually IS a Hammond L-100 with a Leslie-225 speaker cabinet

nice!
I'm determined that one day I'll own (and play) a Hammond....love that B3 sound but I don't know enough about the makes/models to know how it compares to the L-100

OK....made it to Parksville....just on the drive from the ferry terminal to here, I saw 2 Delicas and a couple of funny looking little trucks that must be imports of some kind....I'd forgotten how much better the car scene is out here in general compared to Calgary. I was battin around the notion of bringing the trombone out here with me to see if any of the dealers here would be interested in letting me give it a go but since a user in Calgary has graciously agreed to allow me to try it out (having a hard time getting my butt over to his place) I decided I'd leave it at home.
Now I'm kind o wishing I HAD brought it just to see if I coud get someone to let me try not to mention giving a salesperson a story about this "one kooky guy".....

OK....though it devastates my fragile ego to admit, it turns out that there is PLENTY of room to play a bass trombone in the back of a Delica. In fact I could probably play duets in there (haven't had much luck talking anyone into trios or larger, though so that one will remain speculative indefinitely....for me, at least).
Thanks, Jon for letting me do that.....a job that normally takes 15sec only took 10!
Nice van!
