I've been playing with Centrafuse on a tablet PC with Garmin Mobile PC in it. Would be nice perhaps to integrate a look ahead IR WiFi camera using a waterproof illuminator mounted where the fog lights presently are. As Centrafuse also can integrate an ODB scanner to report engine data, wondering what year Misubishi added ODB to the Delica?

OBD stands for On Board Diagnostics. My old 91 BMW has an OBD port but it's specific to BMW. I believe OBD2 is a standard that was implemented in 96 as an industry standard.

My L400 has an OBD port but modern readers make no sense of it

OBD connectors were voulantarily installed by some manufactures since the early eightys. In 96 it became a north american standard for all vehicles sold in NA to have the OBD 2 connector so that one standardized scan tool could diagnose all vehicles. As these vehicles were never made for sale in NA, they may not be scannable even though they have the connector, or you may be able to fool the scanner by entering the info as if the vehicle is a montereo. There will be nothing you could scan from the mechanical diesel engine, but the trans, abs, central locking system, etc. are probably the same and may be scanable. Or it may not work at all. Worth a try though.

obd 1 came in effect in 1992-1995 and it is manufacture specific. obd2 1996-present is universal and can be read by a scanner due to it running network iso9141 (network speed with a low baud rate which was used by all japanese manufactures until a couple years ago).
Might not be able to get the manufacture specific codes with a universal scanner but you will be able to get the freeze frame data through the obd port and you will be able to get the obd codes ( p---- codes)

As for the reading obd1 a mitsubishi dealership should be able to read them with the manufacture scanner.

Thanks for all the great information, proving that belonging to a forum like this can still be a better resource for specific things than Google. (I did try finding that info in Google and although eventually I may have, after 15 minutes I was not even getting warm.) The trick now seems to be whether there are any type I compatible ODB scanners that may read anything at all from the port of a '93 L300 on eBay.

Until now I had been using TomTom on my PDA, although I did also have Garmin XT on it. Then I got an older tablet PC that wasn't being used anymore. Perfect candidate for Centrafuse and the Garmin Plugin. If you haven't checked out Centrafuse it's a pretty neat car "infotainment" system for PC's that will run on your notebook or netbook computer in your vehicle.

I've got a Garmin BT GPS receiver. I had some maps for Garmin, City Navigator NA 2011.10 I was able to use. I have not had the opportunity to navigate past the end of my dining room table so far, but it appears to have found the pancake house a block away and offers to take me there. If it makes it there I may get more adventurous and even go as far as say.... the Sushi House! I'm worried that if I go any further and the battery goes dead I may not be able to get home again. Come to think of it, where did I park my Delica.......

Diesel L300 delicas from the early 90s, as far as I can tell, don't have any ODB anything, this is because they don't have any on board computer to diagnose. they are all mechanical.
