Japanoid - one bouquet, one SERIOUS concern

Okay, so we bought our '94 Hilux Surf from Japanoid in September. Great truck so far, no problems, bought it straight off the lot. Shogo was great and very accommodating through the sales process (of course - we're giving them money :-D ), but very easy and nice car-buying experience.

Anyways - no issues...until yesterday...when we received a letter from the Ministry of Transport advising us that the companies that Japanoid uses to complete the mandatory vehicle inspections upon vehicle arrival are under investigation and any inspections that they have done are considered invalid. So we need a new vehicle inspection - which is irritating in it's own way - but the more serious concerns arise from the ethical issues surrounding the use of these companies by Japanoid and the obvious safety concerns that come to mind.

So yay for my truck which seems to be ship-shape and which I love....Boo to Japanoid for using shady companies and under the table arrangements and putting peoples lives at risk - not to mention tarnishing the reputation of JDM import businesses further and giving companies like ICBC ammunition to make the import of our lovely right-hand drives more difficult or impossible.

Apparently there were 11 vehicles in total that were all inspected by the same company. The issue was that one company was letting another company(the company in question) use their license as an inspection facility. That is a big no no.
My L-400 was one of the vehicles and I too received the letter.
I don't think they were cutting corners on safety as my vehicle is in tip top shape with all the compliance matters taken care of by Japanoid. The vehicle passed legitimately.
I believe that Japanoids regular inspector was not available so they had to use someone else.
In Shogo's defence, I called him up and the matter is being looked after by them in a very professional manner.
Thanks Shogo for looking after this matter in the way it should be dealt with. Kudos to you.........................Kirk out.

Hmmmm, a member for 15 minutes and you open with this kind of post ?

Why not just send the letter from TC to ICBC and make it even easier for them than wasting typing time. While your at it, why not run around and collect pics of RHD's with wrong headlights, and non DOT tires, They'd really appreciate the help.

Meh - I haunted this site for about a year before I bought my truck as lots of people here have some excellent information and I wanted to find out as much as I could before I bought a JDM. But since I didn't have anything useful to add, no point in posting anything, but this is important info for people to have - so therefore becoming a member and making a post in this area. Otherwise I would have just continued to haunt as I don't actually have a Deli and there's not much discussion of the Hilux's on here....and I think you're missing my point about ICBC. I don't actually WANT ICBC to have more grounds to fight the imports of JDM's. I love having them here, I think that the grounds that companies use to try to fight importation are bunk and based upon lobbying by domestic automakers and suppliers and I can't wait until I can buy a Deli to keep Lex company....my point was that incidents like this undermine the industry and make it easier for insurance companies to find the excuses they already want to block the imports. And unfortunately ICBC knows all this info already because I have to present them with the new inspection report - so the incident has already been reported to them....

I'm glad that Shogo is helping out the other member and getting this taken care of, and if what the previous post says is the case (about these co's just being replacements for Shogo's usual people) then that sucks for Japanoid and their reputation - having said that, it's up to a company to do their due diligence as best they can before they use a company and attach their reputation to that of another agency.

Can you name the shop that was signing off on this? Im wondering if Im one of the 11. I remember looking for a JDM mechanic to take the vehicle to, and I ended up taking it to the same shop that signed off Japanoids inspection paperwork without realizing it until later that week. I was wondering why the guy had a big ear to ear smile saying "nah, its a great truck, I don't need to inspect it for you" refusing to put it on the lift.

How so?

You state yourself that the vehicle legitimately passed re-inspection. There is no ethical problem.

An attitude problem, maybe. But not ethical.

This post is suspicious to me because it looks like a perfect plant for someone to quote in the PR campaign against RHD. You haven't included any details or a copy of the letter, and apparently your only motivation is to slag Japanoid, not give a heads up to other members.

I had the same problem, called Shogo and I have to admit he was very good about the issue and sent me a check for the cost of the re-inspection as i moved to Prince George.
