Hello,

I've been through 2 voltage regulators on the alternator. But I think I found the problem, now I need a new alternator. Does anybody have a alternate part number or know where I can get one.

BTW - you can run at least 6 hours on batteries alone with no lighs or radio - came from Hinton to Williams Lake on thedual batteries after the alternator fried.

i would try guys in coombs at victoria custom car imports. there was also a post from the guy who owns the mechanic shop across the road from them in coombs, can't remember his name. try contacting either of them or take it to your local napa or lordco and they might help.
my wife and i ran the wells hotel for a couple of years ten years ago. we fell in love with the cariboo but settled on the coast. my wife was afraid of bears and cougars.
if you have trouble locating the guys in coombs let me know and i could try phoning around from here.

Can your Alternator be rebuilt? I took one into a local Alternator's only shop and for $60 it was rebuilt, it now charges far better. Also the wipers move a heck of allot fast then before when I first start up.

Is the voltage regulators mounted on the alternator, I can't remember.

Thanks for the ideas guys, I've put this one on hold for a bit. I still just charge the batteries then drive around all day. With an extra deep cycle (yes three batteries :lol: ), I can run the van and lights for around an hour and a half as long as I don't start it too much . Without lights I can go all day.

I have found the part number for the voltage regulator:

IM281 - this is a part number for Transpo, your parts guys should be able to find them with a copy of this

I should be getting my regulator soon.

However, I have also ordered a pulley driven vacuum pump from the Ford Powerstrokes. I plan to mount this somewhere and use one of the alternator belts to drive it and replace the Mitsubishi alternator with a simple Delco one that is available anywhere for under a $100.

I will provide pictures and details when I have finished this.

The regulators are about $60 plus taxes. Should be available at most parts places as they have some other North American application.

Does your alternator have a vacume pump mounted off the back of it?

I finally have everything together to try conversion to a Delco style alternator. I have a 100 amp unit to put in which will give me power to add other electrical goodies. Mounting the vacuum pump could be difficult. There is not much room under the 'hood' but just enough space on the left side of the rad above the air conditioning pump. I have to make a up a bracket and belt tensioning system.

It may be a slow process, but I wil document it if anyone else wants to try later.

did this ever happen? is it possible to get a 12v electric vacuum pump instead?
