Delica Canada | Mitsubishi Van Club

So I'm in the market for a new vehical and happened across a few Delica's on the autotrader website. Loved the look of the van so thought I'd do some research and ended up finding this site. Can anyone give me some advice on the Delica?

I'm kind of in the market for a good commuter that can do a good deal of offroad for camping and eventually a cross-Canada tour about a year from now. Big questions I have are:

How does the Deli handle? Like a boat or a fish or somewhere in between?

Am I going to need a lot of mechanical know how? I'm sort of inept when it comes to cars, but usually get by trading computer and electronics favours for mechanical ones.

Good on gas? I'm going to be driving about 100KM every day (semi-long drive to and from work)

And lastly, are these things as outrageously fun to drive as they look? (Or anything else I should know before looking at buying one?)

I'm grateful for any input you folks might have.

Just decided to post because you haven't gotten a reply, surprising.
We're still waiting on the Deli we have a deposit on but I have driven a few and I like the way they ride, better than you'd expect for a short, tall box. It reminds me a lot of our old 1985 Toyota van as far as the ride goes. The biggest issue I had with that one was the effect the wind had on it on the highway. If you want to check out the offroad capability there's a few good clips on YouTube if you search for Delica. Not owning my own yet I can't speak for fuel economy but from my research the average is around 11-12L/100km. These vans are apparently pretty heavy and I can say that the power won't raise your heart rate any, but it's adequate. There seems to be an enormous amount of people on this site using them as daily drivers as well as for road trips and offroading, good reliable versatile little beasts.Good luck, hope you get some more info on here.

Thanks for the reply and the info Nisseman! The reason I ask about the handling is because I've had a nice driving Mazda 626 for the last 10 years, and suffice to say I'm quite used to it. Unfortunately it's also seen better days (and lower mileage - probably better suspension too), so the time to replace it is coming soon. Better to get something that's a little better suited to my off the beaten path approach to driving ;)
