Hi guys

It looks like the japanese people smoke a lot because I've seen this comment a few times and my van was no exception.

What's the best way to get rid of that smell? Will "Fabreeze" or something like that do the trick?

Hi Fabio,
My new van had the cigarette smell too, usually not very noticable, but open the door on a hot sunny day and it would smack you in the face. The detail shop I used had an ozonator machine, he called it a 'thunderstorm-in-a-box'. He stuck it in overnight and it seemed to freshen it up quite well. It's supposed to attack and neutralize the smoke particles instead of masking it like a spray would.

I use those cheapy ionizers that you can buy at Cdn Tire for <$10 that plug into the lighter socket. Seems to take a couple months but the smell goes away.

I hate Fabreeze...I used that in my VW and the stink that it left was worse (imo) than what I was trying to get rid of and that Fabreezy smell was still stinkin' on strong over a year later when I sold it...gag.

Febreeze is one of those things that started out as something else. It was originally sold in pet stores and vet's offices as skunk spray remover. So if the Japanese folks were smokin' skunk weed it might be perfect.

Ha ha thats classic, it does slowly abate with time, a good wet and dry vacum of the carperts can also help, delicas have alot of fabric surfaces so the smell tends to permeate everywhere.

Oh yeah! and if it was skunk weed, Put a steamer in the car over night a few times and each morning, vacuum the car out with the same wet/dry vac but don't change the filter! After you've daone this for about 3 days, cut the vacuum bag into small pieces and let it dry out pretty good but not too dry then find some rolling papers .... Well it works with whisky barrels.
