The little i do know about the neutral safety switch is that it keep the engine from turning over if your in gear. now for some reason in my delica the neutral safety switch thinks the deli is in drive when it is very much in park. what i dont know is the location of the neutral safety switch in the deli (im hoping just below the gear shifter). iv never opened up that little box before but iv been told that it can get dirty. has any one cleaned or reajusted the neutral safety switch in there deli before?

The neutral safety switch is loacted on the right side of the transmission about half way along. You can remove them and clean the contacts but some times they are just too far gone.
So i am afraid that its an under the van job!
Good luck

by the lack of responds im assuming this isnt a frequent problem. well iv undone all the tie down bolts, but the thing still doesn't want to come off. it almost looks like there is a rod going through the transmission that needs to be released some how. stupid jeep cherokee forum making it look so easy!

Patty,
Did you try and jiggle the steering wheel back and forth while turning the key?

This is not a fix but... can you turn your key to the run position, then see if you can operate your shifter from park all the way to 1st (with your foot on the brake at all times) then place back in park. should roll back slightly. Then try to start it.If this still does not work try to move shifter into neutral and try starting . the slight bump might remind your switch that your in park or neutral

Then you can move it somewhere warm to play with switch or save on a tow bill if you take it to a garage.

yeah i was trying that before, wasn't havin it. in all the write ups about the NSS (which are mostly jeep cherokee for some reason) they said that there is a tabbed washer that must be released to get the NSS out. in the photos of the cherokee it seems pretty straight forward, but on the deli i do not see these little tabs.
now i know people are not responding cause its not a frequent problem, but nay one have any idea of the mechanism itself?
heres two of my main resources:

thanks

cut wire... tie it all together?
switches are for stupid people.
Unless of course it i operating differently than a normal switch.... then my solution won't work... but the switch is still stupid
