I just got my Delica inspected(passed) should be getting the vin# this week.Hopefully will have on the road next week.I've heard of Delica drivers waving to each other on the road.I'm not sure if i'm into that.
if i know you imported your very own Delica here then yeah,i'd wave to you.Having gone through this learning curve and experience,knowing others did the same ,taking the same risks and having the same patience thats worthy of flick of the wrist.seems a bit odd to me thats all.Or,maybe i'm the odd one.Would be nice to hear some opinions.

How will you know when driving down the road if someone imported their deli or bought it from someone else who did...and what possible difference could it make?

Relax! it's just a gesture! Bikers have been giving each other "a wave" forever, except of course that Harley drivers only wave at other Harley drivers. :)

if you are not into waving then don't, simple enough. it is a bonding gesture,Cruiserheads do it, Vette owners do it, Jeepers do it, BMW owners don't . Most rover owners don't, Jag owners don't...

if you are anti-social, uncomfortable, reclusive then feel free not to... no one twisting your arm either way...

the idea that you imported your own and it sounds like, to you,that makes you a step above others in your eyes here is a word of advice... i have imported many dozens of units and i am not a step above anyone... and i have gone through the same steps, that is nothing to make anyone feel above the person that goes to a dealer and purchases one...

To true Wayne, whether you imported your own truck or not should bare no relevance to be friendly to another owner?

I personally always try to wave if I see someone driving a unique vehicle such as a delica.

As a bike driver I wave to other bikes every day and yes the only people that don't wave back are Harley drivers ( #$$%%^% ). I guess there upset by paying sooo much money for under powered, technically inferior machines 8) 8) 8) .

I also wave to other Deli's that I see as we are a small community of really unique vehicles that most owners are quite proud of

Maybe in future I'll only wave at green Deli's, or maybe Deli's with ski racks, or '91 Deli's with high roofs :lol: :lol: :lol:

Hmmm... yes maybe you are an odd one...

I'll wave at anyone. Heck, sometimes I wave for no reason. Here on Gabriola everyone waves at their buddies. If you buy someone else's car (like I did) you have to wave at all their buddies until they figure out the ownership change.

I'm also a motorcyclist (Suzuki SV650S, v-twin sport bike) and I wave at the Harley riders just to confuse 'em. Lots of times they wave back.

to me, after growing up in a farming communitte, you wave. it is a sign of being friendly.

in the city life is different... you wave at those that share the same interests or those that wave at you...
i even wave at the odd Jeeper now... i know, kind of sad...

I wave. I flash the lights. I stick my head out the window and yell. My kids stick arms and legs out and point and ask "Who's that daddy?" My dog barks. My wife rolls her eyes and waives a polite but slightly embarrassed, royal sort of waive. If I time the braking just right I can get the Delica to do a passable little curtsy. Hasn't cost me a dime yet.

No ill intent intended or bouts of self righteousness,thats not me.
I had a miata years ago and people would wave to me,i just found that odd.
I do like the gesture of "small community" Fanny Bay referrenced to.
ICBC clearly does not want these vans on the road.
For owners such as us to say;"too bad these are what we want" is the spirit i"m drawn to.
importing my own van has been an experience,i would certainly do it again.I was not slighting the owners whom have bought one locally.
It just feels good to have gone through the purchase from start to finish.

The import community in general is fairly small, and when I'm in my Delica I will wave to any RHD vehicle I see (well... not the garbage trucks, post office trucks, or street sweepers, but you get the idea)
When I'm in my work van I wave to anyone driving a vehicle decaled with our company name (and with thousands of employees I certainly don't know them all)
the only catch is remembering which vehicle I'm in, 'cuz the work people get confused when a Delica waves at them and vice-versa....

my thought is that we're all in this together, so be friendly, you never know who you'll meet, there are some awesome people in this group and they have already helped me out a few times.

I am all about the wave.

As a former 1973 Volkswagen van owner and a driver of a Jeep Cherokee Woody I love being part of a club.

My wife will confirm; I got so bored driving a Honda Civic around that I actually started giving a little wave to Bikers. I am not sure that any actually saw me or not because I can't actually remember any of them waveing back. Maybe it was just the repuation that we Civic drivers seem to have.

It used to be that the two finger lift off of the steering was the sauve indication that you wanted to be noticed by a fellow "club" member.

I just love the fact that I have to extend my left arm fully to feel like a fellow Delica owner would even notice me.

If you all are anything like me though, you have spotted and confirmed a Delica a long way off. It is pretty hard to hide this rig.

I hope I spot ( insert your name) sometime, I will be the one waving!

Growing up in a town of 2000 people you were waving at everyone all the time. Changing the wave every month or so keep everyone on their toes. 2 finger slaute off the wheel, the miltary slaute, hand out the window, tip of the baseball cap, head nod, both hands (only on the staight aways) yelling out the window. The choices are endless. Even in big cities I say hi to people on the street if we make eye contact. Most people just put their head down and walk faster. Friendly people are CRAZY!!!!!
As for the deli wave, I can't wait to start waving like mad at all these deli I am seeing around Courtenay when I get mine.
Saw a mint one tone green with very shiny wheels. Waved at them from my bike. Saw one a Thriftys parking lot and waiting for a few minutes to wave at the owner but they took to long in the store. They must have been too busy waving at everyone in the store.

anybody came accross my wavin' yet? ...my french bare ass!! WHO cares!! sometimes, if i roll down the window just enough, and if i'm going fast enough, my ass cheeks will flap frantickly together, sort of saying congrats on the bread box sucker!! :P

My personal favourite is the two-handed panic sort of wave. This looks especially hilarious in a forward-control vehicle like the Delica or the old econoline vans because it gives the humerous impression that you've been strapped in against your consent.
