A strange sqeaky sound?

Quite random, and not all the time... yet... this squeaky sound simply doesn't sound right. It doesn't happen on high speeds (like, about 50 km/h). Only on slow speeds, and even on idle. Sometimes when it is cold, or when milder. Has started first about 2 weeks ago, and continues with irregular frequency from somewhere "down there." Sounds like something rubbing on metal, when idling. When I press on the gas, the frequency of the sound increases, and then sometimes disappears.
I know it is really not much to go by, yet would appreciate any ideas. I will be visiting CVI later in the week, for some other things, and want to ask them to look into it - though don't know what "it" is and whether it will choose to be quiet while I am there.

Hey FlyingBarney!
Could it be a fan belt slipping type squeak? That would generate an intermittent squeak at varied revs (even sometimes idle) can happen when belt gets very wet and indicates time to check tension or replace belt.
Haven't looked at belt configuration but might get you going in the right direction.
Not sure if a dying fan clutch could make that kind of noise...?
Anything else rubbing should be a constant noise, I would think.
Hope this helps - a bit of a shot in the dark.
Cheers!

My bet would be one of the belts also.
I had a similar horifying noise, kinda a squeal with some chirps thrown in.
When the belts got done it went away.

The sound indeed is coming from the engine... so I guess it might be the belts. Though the strange thing is that I got this car from Mardy, who replaced all the belts as part of his prep work on the car.

Mine does the same thing... I'm stopping in to see Glen in Coombs tomorrow so hopefully I'll get an opinion from him.

I also have a very slight squeak on idle and have been told that it is the belts and may have something to do with the large variation in temperature and moisture we have had lately. Keep us posted on what you learn, Jonny5ive.

Me too! An ever so slight belt squeak, sometimes. Had ccautos Glen have a look-see and he told me not to worry about it
