Hi Breadman --My friend in Japan looked into parts cost for replacing the entire mechanism on one side. His general conclusion was that it would be quite costly ($500 to $1000ish for the mechanism for one side).

I looked into the same issue and have a parts diagram for the electric shades on an Exceed. Over the weekend, I'll scan this in.

Hi Breadman -- as requested...

The prices are in Yen (of course), and I belive pertain to the mechanism for one complete side (front and back).

Ooops -- i think I misinterpreted the prices. These seem to pertain to BOTH sides (life and right, front and rear) - thus the four separate items on the quotation. Sorry for the confusion!

thanks mark. i guess i will try and figure out what is wrong with them instead of ordering something that expensive.

Cheers Paul,

Really curious if you took apart your headliner to fix the shades, and if it's a job us mere mortal can accomplish?

It's such a shame you guys are so far away!

I have a complete working set (all four) of the Crystal Lite roof blinds sat in my garage!

I have some knowledge of how to remove the headlining and roof blind cassettes etc....if you need any info, just leave a message here....

Regards,

Bruce.

we really do need to find a cost effective way of getting things from you to us... I bet you could sell us all sorts of MetalMonkeys accessories!

Here is one blind unit with motor at top that operates the two cables in the copper pipes.

This is the motor and spindle that turns to pull/push the cables in their copper sheaths.

Let's try that again...

This is where mine runs into problems...
Image
This shows the cable, with a plastic clip end, with the rod through the bottom edge of the blind inserted into the plastic clip, secured by a clip ring.

But on the other side of the blind, the plastic clip end is sheared - blind not connected to cable. I'm building missing pieces of the clip with epoxy and then re-attaching the 2 clip pieces.
Oh, by the way, getting to these blind units was fun: headliners, fluorescent light unit, a/c vent tubes, all out first!

How difficult is it to take apart the whole ceiling and shades portion... or more importantly, how easy would you think it is to put back together?

Just curious before I rip apart my whole ceiling.

Josh.
